Sorry, I misread your previous post. I was thinking you meant 7 tenths under. No, right now 4 cars capable, none have dipped under. Morse, Gove, Caro, and Jones could if they wanted.

It can be difficult and frustrating trying to win rounds with a car that fast in Super Stock. When I first ran SS/AM with my Calais we were the quickest and fast Super Stock car in history with an 8.86 - 154 mph qualifying pass at Houston early in the year. I don't remember what the index was then but that qualified us #6 in the field. That was with a 4 year old B/ED 360 c.i. Buick with one dominator and a manual 4 speed. The problem is the speed differential with most of the other cars in Super Stock. You are closing on them so fast at the finish line that it's difficult to judge your position. You have to dial so that you can't break out and run it out the back every time. I don't like driving like that. I prefer to dial 1 or 2 soft to give me some options. In addition, the power to weight ratio in that class means that you have to be right on the money in the bellhousing to be consistent. In comp you have time to service the clutch between rounds to make the car repeat. Not so in SS. In addition, lane choice can quickly become an issue. By the Springnationals that year I decided to move to A/SM in comp. Best move I ever made.

I don't know Scott very well.I met him at Atco in 2006.We were parked next to each other
in tech for record tear down.I spoke to him at that time.
I was at the Grove when he went in the 7s.
I can't say for sure but now that he's the quickest all time and first N/A Super stocker in the 7s he has the option of backing the car down to make it more round friendly. But I think
by watching him run since '06 that his main focus is to go as fast as he can.
I would have thought that Paul Ricci was going to run the first 7 in SS/AM.

Re: BAD NEWS for SS/JA CARS!!!!

I am a huge fan of SS & S classes. I always enjoyed watching REAL RACE CARS get up and get down. I know of that 305 car in SS/JA, it is an impressive piece for a 305 there is no denying that. That is one BAD WHEEL STANDING HOTROD:eek:. As a spectator I cant wait to watch that car make those untammed mustangs and challengers sweat. I enjoy watching the "underdog" cubic inch cars smack the bigger cubes around. Bigger is not always better! Its ashame nhra wouldnt take the leashes off the old dogs and show the new pups they have alot of training to do;).
HATS OFF to all competitors in any class for the hard work and dedication in your sport. Its is fun to watch!:D

How about the 383 Mopars (Little & Cotten) at The Strip!

Don't know that they can run with a DP or new Mustang. Maybe they can. I hope they can.

Re: BAD NEWS for SS/JA CARS!!!!

With the success of the 383 cars; Don Little, Mike Cotten, Steve Wann & Stacy Smith, I gotta believe the '62 383/343 dual four barrel engine would be great for Super Stock and GT with a tunnel ram style manifold.
Is the 330hp SS factor too much?

Last year, at The Strip, Lynch went within .06 or .07 of them with his stocker in JA.....What do you think?

I think maybe GT might be the right place for the 383/343 combination! LOL!

They might think about putting that one in I or H, don't know that anybody would buy the Volare knowing they had to face that one heads up. LOL

Those guys are straight up enough racers, and not afraid of HP hits (at least with the Volare) it may end up where it belongs before too long anyway. They aren't like a lot of others that just finally got fast when they bought one of those cars. Those guys have always been fast and have not been too afraid to show it. I'm hoping anyway. :-)

Wonder what the mph was on those runs ?

Sounds fast maybe we should put up a little money for Indy class winner
say 500.00 for each car winner take 75% looser 25% run off a latter let nitro joe hold the money. the only way this would work is for everyone in the class to be in on this deal
every one to pay up before first round of Q1 if 500 is too much we can reduce it .
have fun

Re: BAD NEWS for SS/JA CARS!!!!

I am not sure how most of you are figuring it, but in Mr. Jones defense, the Camaro was running GT/HA which would make him over 100 pounds heavy for SS/JA, and he still went faster than the fastest SS/JA car, on the same track, on the same weekend. Things could be interesting at Indy on Labor Day weekend.

Mr.Stancil, I have allready thought about that idea. It won't work. You know everyone will not agree to that!!! NHRA has ruined class racing with all the HP hitting!! And MR. Stancil, MR Terrell is a friend of mine and I'am not sure what he will do come Indy class? I have known about that car for 30 years and like I have said before there is on one out of the Terrell camp bragging on his 305!!! But I can brag because that's a Bad 305!!! And I will be at Indy for class. I don't miss SS/Class for nothing!!! I will say you racers come from as far as west, to as far as east, as far as south to try to out run that 305!!! And yes!!! SS/JA class could be interesting at Indy! One thing for sure MR. Stancil, I wish NHRA would let you fast guys run it all out! This is my opinion that all of the guys whining about the 305 and the new CJ and DP, If you run with them then get out of the class!! See ya all at Indy class. SS/Class ROCKS!!:D:p:D
