Yeah- yeah , I know -where have I been ? Right here and I've been busy - Class racing is not dead - not just yet here in the Northeast and today's racing proved it .The class racing today ranked right up there with Indy or the like . Classes like B/SA with eleven entries proved to be a marathon .The early leaders in the class turned out to not be the trophy takers .Jim Boudreau was the class of the field and went thru it like a knife thru butter .....until the final - and a slighly worse light than his opponent was his undoing - Robbie Hudlow ended up with the B/SA hardware and he earned it -and did I menton his perfect light ? AA/SA looked like it was going to another Ficcaci - this time dad Steve ( who was driving Anthony Bongiovanis' new Cobra Jet ) broke a trans and that let the final to our own Ken Miele in his old school Cobra Jet against the ice cream man - Dave Thomas in his Viper powered Challenger and Ken just didn't have enough to stay with him .

And how about the stick singles trophy going to Todd Hoven driving Truman Fields' D/S '68 Firebird over Don Fizells '08 Cobra Jet who spun .And it was no cake walk for him as the round before he had to put out the always tough Adam Strang with a 10.56.And how about poor Eddie Fernandez who had to settle for the singles automatic runner-up when he just didn't have the muscle in the final against Richard Eepprecht in his '94 Caprice v-6 mini LTI .It was almost the little train that could .

Sorry for the delay, the internet service is not very good tonight. Uploading pics and videos are slow. Here are some random pictures. The Blue CJ is Bo Kenney’s new ss ride, driven by Lee Zane. They went over his car with a fine tooth comb.

I know your guys have seen enough of my in car, but I thought it might make for an interesting shot. It looks like I was ahead of him at the 1000 but I can assure you he had me by more than a wheel. No point in running it out. Again, sorry about the poor vids, I thought Joe was going to run the right lane. I hope to have a first round shout of someone tomorrow, but as of yet I have not lined anyone up.

Want more ? ? How about A/SA with its star studded nine entries - every kind of car entered this class from Hemis to old Camaros to new Challengers and Cobra Jets and when the smoke cleared it was Brooks Lee winning it only to be DQed in post race tech and handing the win to David Barton in his early NASCAR Hemi car .

And how about C/SA going to another Ficcaci - his time Mike in his sharp '72 big block Corvette going 10.44 to win over Jimmy Young in his '98 Firebird . And then we have young Katie Sepanik in her '72 Chevelle I/SA taking the gold home over a comatose Bud Rowe .

I have the dubious distinction/honor of running Garlits first round. Nervous? You bet! We'll see what happens! Interestingly, I had a nice chat with him in the pits today. I have nothing but admiration and respect for him and all he has done for sport.

Larry, I will try to get some info tomorrow. It has been a busy day and by the time I got a chance to cruise around it was late. Most everyone is in for the night. I will talk to David Barton in the morning, I am sure he knows what happen with Brooks Lee.

Troy go back and look at live from Maple Grove there is a vidoe of Dons run. Notice how at 6000 the 750 hp engine just hangs for a moment before it starts to move again, but only in first gear. Throttle by wire "You just can't beat it"

Good morning everyone, first round is done for Stock, Super Stock will be out later for first round.

Temp71
Humid 30%
Bar 30.00
DA 1162
Wind Cross 10mph

The weather was much better this morning for most. Picking up anywhere from 7 to 12 hundreds. The wind was a little screwy, most of the time it was only a cross but other times it went head cross. I was lucky, could not run the number. It does not matter much anyway, I have Dave Thomas next round. I think I can pickup a little, but realistically I have no shot.

Here are a few shots of the staging lanes, it looked like a NYC traffic jam at times.

I hope to have Micheal Iacono for the in car cam today.

Larry, not sure I will be making the trip. If I go I will do a in car with you.

I don't like throttle by wire either but it’s probably just showing clutch slip until it gets some driveshaft speed and locks it up. I'd really like to see his racepak graphs.

I noticed Bud Rowe got a freebie first round: He didn't even have to take a shot at the tree.

Was Mr. Rowe's opponent a no-show?

Wow - You won't believe it but I've been trying since 6am to connect onto the Internet and just got on now - thanks Verizon Wireless ! ! !

Plenty to talk about but I'm afraid I'll lose the Internet again .

I must say that round wins came in weird ways for me but never like today - I was to run Bob Moran heads - up this morning but last night he had a pit scooter / golf cart accident and when the smoke cleared he had a broken leg .Bob got a trip to the hospital and a temporary cast and by 2am was on his way home and will have surgery there tomorrow to fix and repair the break .Hope everything goes well and we hear from Bob or a member of his family .

I can't tell you much about the first round as I was one of the last to run and didn't get to see much ........but was it ever fast as there were plenty of breakouts I've been told .And did the track have teeth - Holy Cow Batman - big wheelstands .

And how about our feerless leader Mr. Ken with that triple zero light ? He's won this event before so ...........well , I won't jinx him .

SuperStock is out on the track as I type and I'll try and get some news for you ............

Troy if the clutch is slipping why does the tach not move? Is it an example of acceleration curve not matching the one set in the computer, and then the computer adjusting the air intake to make it match? I always thought the clutch slipped or the tires spun with the tach always moving forward!

When was the last time Peter Biondo, Anthony Bertozzi and Dan Fletcher all went out in the first round of Super Stock?

Mike Fuller 06-03-2011 02:45 PM

Re: Live from Englishtown , NJ - NHRA Supernationals

Larry, these cars have a built in sensor that only allows them to accelerate under full power in a heads up situation. It took a lot of time and effort to accomplish this but it is proving to be well worth it.

Oh, now I understand: Fernandez fouled first.

Not worst, but first. We'll never know if his foul was worse, as his opponent never even had to try. This Fernandez character simply handed over a freebie.

Now it all makes perfect sense.

Re: Live from Englishtown , NJ - NHRA Supernationals

I see guys are icing down the blowers on the Mustangs - they will eventually figure out that can be a bad thing - If you cool the case down with hot rotors inside then the rotors will rub the housing at start up taking the rotor coating off and causing the unit to loose efficiency once it comes up to temp. Or worst case the unit will seize due to rotor OD contact. It will be an expensive learning experience.

Hey Larry, The tach only moves foward or up if it is tire spin, when the clutch slips its like it on the conveter in a auto. just kinda sets there for a instant then catches up and goes on.
