Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Well we just made our first run and surprise, surprise--they ran it on a pro tree. I don't think it was supposed to be that way. Anyway--Air was about 2200'. I took a few more pics I will post in a bit.

I was involved with one of the earliest nostalgia shows, the Musclecar Nationals back in the late 1980s. My partners and I were adamant about presenting history instead of wanna-be cars. For instance, Bill Blair's Pontiacs had super duty engines and not a dart big block. We even caught a lot of grief for not knowingly booking any clone (or "tribute" as they're called today) cars. If we were featuring Bonner's Falcon, it was the same car he drove. We got some bad ink when Popular Hot Rodding sent a guy to participate in our Sacramento show. The car he brought was a pieced-together bracket car which didn't fit any of our classes. He insisted that we let him race anyway, telling us "you don't know what you're getting into". Later we found who had sent him and as you can imagine the coverage wasn't the best. We were a couple guys on a shoestring and when we got a call from Comp Cams about backing us we were pretty excited. However, when we met in Atlanta we found that their view of the sport wasn't the same as ours. We were told that they didn't sell vintage parts and that the focus would be on older cars with new technology. When we hesitated, we were informed that one of the MAJOR magazines had promised the cover and feature for the new series and club, even though it didn't exist. We didn't make the deal and the rest is history. So, I guess you can say the market decided which way nostalgia racing would go. Though we suffered through a number of rainouts the real problem was not being able to draw the spectators. When a large company that could spend ten times our advertising budget (plus get free magazine coverage) decided to play the game they got to make all the rules. Sorry for the hijack. Now I'm going back to enjoy the Hill's excellent coverage. |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!

Originally. the Musclecar Nationals were promoted by Jerry Kelley. Latham Hill, and Richard Lasseter (GS club). Richard left and the name changed to Fastlane Promotions. Latham stepped away a bit later. |

Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
All in all it was a great day! We got 3 runs and finally got the car to run 10.53, so we are ready for tomorrow. We get 1 run, then 1st round. I saw Big Daddy earlier today. He is here with his Swamp Rat and his Drag Pak. Today has been a great day to see old friends and make new ones. Thanks to Mr. Carter and his friends for dinner. The steaks and fixin's were great. Also thanks to Mike, Harry and Dave down at the Swap Meet section for the drink. I can't remember the name. I think it was "Sailing Jerry"? Boy was it good!!
Well it is about our bedtime! We have to be up and running by 10 in the morning! I like these schedules! |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Now that looks like a race to have FUN at.
Thanks for the pics.....and good luck |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Well it is another beautiful day here at Beech Bend. It may not be that way for long, though. The weather is calling for rain and 90. I will be taking more pictures today, so stay tuned!

Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Here is a picture of me purchasing the new Retro 2012 1/2 Ford Mustang from Brent Hajek this morning. It is a non-supercharged 7.0 liter but it does have a single overhead cam and a chain a mile long. Since it is a natural aspirated engine, NHRA has rated it at 205 hp. With the weight in it, it should run J/S. I think it may be a tight fit for me to drive it. I may have to move the seat back. We will debut the car next week at Norwalk!

Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
That's funny,Larry....but sadly, not much different than what we have today in Stock.
|
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Sweet ride Larry, but will it do big wheelies like the Cuda? See ya at Norwalk ...
|
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Nice ride Larry, just remember to lift at the 1000' the first time out.
You don't want to hit the HP too soon! I'd like to have the Clair Sanders/ Jungle Jim Nova behind it. I used to wrench on that car when a good friend campained it in B/Altered ,back in the mid '70s. Could have bought it back in '89 for $1500!! Oh Well .... |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Larry I’m glad there is still a place for all you old timers to race. Why would you buy a new car that is not fly by wire? How are you planning to cheat now without it? Who is going to tune it for you ? Jason Fuller?

Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Charley we bought the car turn key with a maintenance- tuning contract. Brent said the contract was with a small company in Leaveonya, Mi. Brent said they do a little of everything on a race car, you probably haven't heard of them, I think the owners name is Jack Rou.... oh hell I getting so old I can't remember names, something about Dr. Seuss, oh, I remember ''The Cat In The Hat".

Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Larry,
Please look up my neighbor Darrell Walden with the Parks and Walden Jr fuel rail. Thank You, Larry Woodfin |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Jason what on earth does my job haft to do with any of this? I work 40 plus hours a week. Some of us choose to spend our money on new and better combos. Some choose to spend/waste money on old used up combos. You and Terry must pull yourself out of the past and into today.
Larry I think Brian Wolf might live in Leaveonya MI. Wait he lives at 150 RT Divenbuyya MI |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Larry,
Is that a C/sa or a C/s ? JimR |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Larry, thats Livonia,Mi. And Brian Wolfe lives in Willis Mi. BTW that was the funniest post of the year!
Charlie, did Jason tell that he thought your brother Patrick was you at Joliet? His excuse was that he had not seen you in a long time. We all must be getting old. |
Re: "Live" from NHRA Hot Rod Reunion!
Tonight after the rain stopped, we took a walk up to Brent's pits. There was a choice of moonshine flavors: pineapple, strawberry, blueberry, spicy pear, cinnamon apple, etc. The pineapple was good after the initial shock!
