"Best Appearing Car" - Truman D.Fields owned '68 Firebird driven by Todd Hoven .I got to personally present Todd with this award and believe me it is well deserved as this Stocker is spectacular .I'm positive Truman will be delighted with Todds' efforts .Congrats go out to both of them .............

Yippee ......We're finally racing .As of twenty minutes ago the track is suitable for racing and S/G is on the track at this moment .Stock is eight in the rotation and S/S is tenth .First rounds will be run after that but ( and there's always a but ) no racing will be contested after dark .This was the official word that came down ..........

For those of you old enough to remember what a Creamsickle was - this is now "our" new version ! ! ! Being old isn't all that bad somedays .

Stock just got their final qualifier - 3 to 4 hun faster for most - air wasn't better but the track was .First round should be in an hour or so .

Tommy Ciccarone made a guest appearance this afternoon - comeback ? ? ?

And as usual the boss was standing around doing nothing .........

Curmudgeon - Have no idea what the H stands for ..........

Sorry , just expressing frustration . Have a good friend racing there this weekend and realize they were delayed starting but do not understand running the filler show instead of Super Stock Qualifying .

this is a nice car and a hell of a racer , i was pitted next him at at the valley and the starter was ****ten the bed,"starter was grinding real bad"(he pulled it out and worked black magic and thought he mite be going home )he went four or five rounds with a stick car with steller lights ,and he just had put together before the maple grove race that he was at ,look for him as a good stick racer gmonde

dont forget about the e/s firebird from jehrico vt ,that is also a nice car gmonde

Yeah, and at about one tenth of the budget as the No. 2 car.
Nah, probably less than that if I know Billy.

We finally got our second qualifying run, most picked up anywhere from 3 to 5 hundreds. The were a few who picked up enough to trigger hp.
Billy Nees Jr, Don Fezell, JC Beattie.

The next in car cam is brought to you by Jerry MacNeish, very cool.

Congrats to Billy Nees in his newest "Dime Rocket" -- 1978 Pontiac Gran Prix - # 1 Stock Qualifier .This must be a Pontiac weekend.

Stock did get in round one this evening - lots of surprises as even with the heavy dew it was blinding fast tonight -many picked up 5 to 7 hun over their last qualifier .

Racing will resume at 8 am to conclusion - hopefully before the rains hit again .SuperStreet will be the first ones out .

By the way - I was told under no circumstances would we be racing under the lights tonight - yet there we were @ 9:30pm ..........Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Jack Matyas 08-21-2011 07:15 AM

Re: Live from Rising Sun , MD - NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Good morning - And thats about all the good news I 've got at this point - the skies are very overcast and some light fog has rolled in overnight . The local forecast says rain is "on the way" - but who believes those guys .

Looking at the big picture the anticipated 8am start is the best route to take - its not a matter of if its - but when . Many were not happy ( including myself ) about racing under the poorly lit track last night but it is less to get done this morning . This reporter can't remember the last time I did a burnout in the dark ( and I'm sure I did as I've been here many times ) - I had no recollection the lights in the starting area being that dark.

Hopefully this will work out .........funny thing is that were 45 minutes fron start and the place is quiet as a morgue . Later ...........

I hate it when I'm right - its here - you know the four letter word - RAIN - sprinkles now but picking up speed .We were part way thru SuperStreet when one of them hit the brakes way too hard and blew out a front tire .He didn't crash but till they cleaned up the mess the wet stuff started .We'll see but it doesn't look terrific ............Stock was to be next .Everyone was sent back to the pits .........I'm hearing the pitter-patter on my coach roof and its picking up bigtime .

This August has been one of the worst, rainwise, in a very long time and of course mostly on weekends...
Nothing we can do about it besides enjoying time at the track with friends and foes??? and above all staying dry and safe.
As always appreciate the reports, pics and videos you and the boss provide to all of us back home.
Montreal in my case where its also raining.....so there will be no Sanair visit today.:(

Why wont they just call it a day and reschedule, instead of making everyone suffer waiting around there??

Because there is no date that will make everyone happy. The more people they can run through today, the less that will have to come back for a rain day. The number of cars that can run today will also determine if one or two days are needed for a rain date.

All the fields are set, why would they need a two day raindate??

You need two so if it rains again - it is that time of year .

Stock has completed round two and their racing the Top classes along with S/C ....And it not raining .

Because they would give everyone a time run before starting eliminations. If the field were still at 390 cars, it would be hard to go through all of eliminations in a single day unless there were no problems.

The other side of trying to get some racing in today is the effect a postponement will have on racers. Before eliminations started, there were 300+ racers who would have had to make a choice between returning here or going to where they had originally planned to go on that date. If you can get through just one round of eliminations, then the number of racers who would have to make that decision is cut in half.

Everything except Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will be completed at the E'town points race. TS and TD will be completed at the Dutch.

Who would have guessed ? ? The hottest class seems to be H/SA in D1 this year - thru no official research it looks like having one of these means you'll have a heads-up for sure ..........Just look at the heads-up races Lee Zane ( the Division points leader ) has had -- bet he's glad that he has a fast horse under him ...................
