Any ideas on how to remove the decals without screwing up the windows? Also if I ever join the HRA's again I am sure I will not get the same numbers. They are on the windows too.

be very carefull on lexan if they are coated style abrasion resistant lexan windows. the coating can come off like saran wrap.

3M Adhesive Remover works great, and the plastic razor blades are a big help. Autozone, Orielly's has it on the shelf......

Angelo, go to the automotive paint supply store and purchase the die grinder with eraser wheel attachment. Astro tools sells the product. You will need a couple eraser wheels to remove a lot of decals. The wheel is a four inch eraser, and it works great.

This is also very good advice.I used one that I got from Advance Auto to remove some lettering on an enclosed trailer.Worked better than expected.Helped justify the over $40 price tag.

I found this on KleanStrips web site....http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=33&prodid=121
Now if I can find a place to buy it .....!! Might have to take a trip to Dallas...except in the rush hours, if there is such a thing !!

home improvement stores sell it, hasn't hurt any paint here yet

I've never had a problem getting them off with just a heat gun. I get the glue off with Safety Kleen parts washing solvent, it won't bother the paint. Never had to use anything else.

heat gun for the bigger ones, get heat just right glue will come with it. any glue residue use wd 40. wont hurt paint at all. for the small or multiple letters or very thin vinyl use the eraser wheel. this combo can get an entire cars decals off in under an hour.

^^^This..... much better/faster than WD40. Also works great on removing the rubber from your rear rockers.

Parts washer solvent works well for both also. Just dip a rag in your parts washer if you don't feel like driving to the auto parts store.

Hey everyone. I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. We have a sign shop and have a commercial glue remover that would take you maybe 5-10 minutes (per side) to remove all the glue. It will NOT hurt the paint or clearcoat! Also when putting your decals back on, we make a one piece decal to fit your car. Give me a shout if you need any glue remover, we buy it 5 gallons at a time. The only problem is you won't get to sit around for 5 hours and drink beer while you work because you'll be done in 20 minutes! 256-810-6162

Are you saying it softens the glue under the decal for removal or just removes the residue after decal removal?

Re: Removing Decals

My apology....It will remove the glue. We use a razor to get the corner started up on the decals the peel them by hand. A little heat is good, a lot of heat can make it worse (they'll stretch & leave ALL the glue) and some of them don't matter what you do they are a pain. All depends on the material the decals are made of. We then use the remover to get the glue. It won't soften the decal for removal. Only way to do that is elbow grease or a rubber wheel on an air tool (which makes a mess!) but it works. If you ever try the one piece decal wrap, you will never go back. They can be removed in 5 minutes with no leftover glue.

Where can you purchase this wrap Jeff? I'll assume it is clear...you cut it to fit a specific area? I'm thinking the lower door panels and fender quarters.

Re: Removing Decals

We make them here. Feel free to give me a call. 256-810-6162 Depending on the car, we may already have a template? If that's the case all we need is a list of decals you want. We take care of the rest.

HandOverFist 01-09-2014 03:28 PM

Re: Removing Decals

Ahh...I was thinking it was a clear wrap you could apply, then place your decals on it. The car is a 1967 Camaro...once I get all these old decals off the new ones will only go on the lower panels of the body instead of the helter skelter fashion they currently reside.

Hey Ang. That Pyroil Penetrating Oil works very well at getting the glue off. You should have plenty of that laying around!! Good luck! And polish those wheels, valve covers and Intake!!!
