Would love to be there if it comes together.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Yeah, especially if any given of the four AFX 2 percent cars get slated to show up. A lot of interesting covert development was going on in 63' leading up to 64'.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
The same person owns 2 of the 4 '64 AFX cars(Strickler & Ramchargers). The Ramchargers car was there in 2008.
I doubt if the 2008 event will ever be repeated. Those that didn't attend missed a special event. |

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Pretty hard to top the '08 reunion...first class all the way. Sure do hope there is a 50th deal tho. Quaker City was an Ideal location...legendary track, beautiful...where it all happened back in the day.
With regard to this thread it was very cool to see the original afx cars present and how each was constructed/modified differently by the different teams. It is great to see how these cars were restored/preserved so carefully . |

And a few of the Golden Commandos '65 A/FX Plymouth AWB car...notice the switch from the cross-ram w/hood scoop to the injectors.

If anyone is interested in 1:18 diecast replicas of many of these historic rides, check them out at www.supercar1.com ,, theres also a newly issued run of some of Bill Jenkin's cars. I picked up a Melrose Missle last year, before they sold out and the quality is amazing,, even got driver, Cecil Yother to sign the roof. Danny Durham |

Perhaps this is why the "NO SOLID ROCKET FUEL" rule was put into place.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Here's a converted '65 A990 Plymouth, now with an injected hemi but this one looks like it still retains it's original wheel base but notice the engine location...a lot of old Mopars were cut and converted to altered wheel base cars over the next few years

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
I wonder if I'm distantly related to Dave Strickler? There is a Strickler from York in my family tree, but it's way back in the 1800s. I wonder if anyone has researched his family tree that I can download the GEDCOM? Almost everyone in York is related to me if there family has been there any length of time. My family has been there since the 1700s. Most are still there, only a handful of us has escaped the gravitational pull of York.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Steve no longer owns the car and hasn't for several years. It is now owned by Nick Smith from Florida. It actually runs now as it was a "roller" when Mr. Atwell had it.
Mr Smith also owns the Landy '65 AWB car among other very historic race cars. Quote:

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
does anyone have any pics of the front suspension on the strickler 2% car--that car is way up there -wondering how they acomplished that ? in high school there were a few cars that what they called back then[reversed spindles] that consisted of cutting off the origonal spindle stub and welding another spindle to where the stub was cut off [like the upper ball joinrt area was welded to where the spindle stub was removed] 3 55-57 chevs and a facon were done like this---wondered if mopar did something similar or what they did-----thanks dave

A couple of pics I took at the International Mercury Owners Association meet at Indy in 1998.
One thing I will give him, when he took it out of the trailer and fired it, I knew by the sound and smell I was in for a treat. |
