Last time I ordered one of the Factory Race Cars I had to give them my NHRA license number before I could even order it. I guess anyone can order them now. Is that what is happening? If you got the cash you get the car....

I had to give my NHRA License number to purchase a body in white Mustang. Notarized application with owners name, drivers name, chassis builder name and number(IIRC) and Ford Racing approval then they contacted the vendor to say yes that I could place my order with the vendor. This has been Fords practice for a while. I remember it when you had to have a competition license to buy the 93 Cobra R.

Don't know but if they need a number it would not be hard to get that. Send NHRA some cash and walla you now have a license for stock.

Doesn't look like you hit the reserve!

It really doesn't bother me that some people are starting to try to flip the COPO's. I am just happy that GM sold the 50 needed to make them legal!

Now that GM is making another 69 it will be interresting to see what people get for the 2012's.

I'm sure the reserve is set at well over $100k, he's not going to get what he wants for it.

Gee, it's suddenly up to $89k, which is exactly what he paid. I wonder if he has his friends bidding it up for him to get someone to bite.

This is a different one that is at $89K (reserve not met) in Delaware. The one from last week that ended over the weekend was a black one.

all I know is that you still have to catch a good light and run the number to win.It doesn't matter what you drive. So bring on the the new cars and lets have some fun.

I'm starting to wonder if GM's announcement on continuing the Copo Camaro's for 2013 scared all the speculator's & collectors into dumping some of their 2012 models that they had tucked away...Hmm.

.

H Hoover 11-14-2012 10:05 AM

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk

Maybe they are trying to dump them but at the prices asked, they are dreaming. I think by next years run the prices gotten will be around MSRP. At least that what has happened to the Mustangs. The first year or two the speculators bought them and figured they had it made. Now they are stuck with them as each new model year produced makes the first ones less rare and valuable.

There's something sad about a factory race car sitting on a showroom floor...I mean it's sure not like the old days because wouldn't you want a race car with some history, or a name tied to it like Dick Harrell, Bill Jenkins, Larry Lombardo, Warren Johnson, Richie Zul, or some other famous name...so when the cars up for sale again say in 25 years, and they ask whose it was?

(2) 427 cars were in Mecum auction today. Red car bid to 100K and black car went to 110K and neither hit reserve. It seems like a large percentage of the cars already produced are for sale. If GM wanted them on the tracks they didn't do a very good job in owner selection.

I think that it is fair to say that GM would love to see them all racing Stock and Super Stock. They have done what they can, but once a car leaves the build center it is private property.

I have already had several people try to buy number 6. The offers are tempting, but after the money is spent what will I do?

Hello

I'm new here.. I picked up my COPO car #33 in October. Mine is a 427 car. I have only had a chance to run it once. I am going to race it for 2013.

I didnt have to put down a penny until two days before pick up.

I dont see ever selling! The car is perfect, the fit and finish is better then any other 5th Gen I have seen.

Here is my car.

Re: Copo camaro on racing junk

I think GM has done a very good job of trying to get these COPO Camaros into the hands of racers. I have watched this closely thru a number of sources and it seems like only about 7 or 8 cars have been offered for resale out of the nearly 50 delivered so far. Not bad at all if way more than 75% of these cars get raced in some way going in to next season. I am getting my 427 car very soon and am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity. I am a car collector and yes, some of my motivation to order one of these very special cars was the low production number in the first year to make it an instant collectible car, but................I'm goin' racing with my buddies and making some history of my own with this very cool race car. I for one am thrilled that the folks at GM Performance saw this project thru to the end.

Rat Raceway, that black & orange Copo looks really nice...but I'd still like to know what that knob inside the gas door is?

Just curious, so will there be a Copo shootout some wheres next year...maybe someone should start planning one, it would be interesting.

Fire away on any questions... I have tried to educate my self on every part or the cars. The orange knob is a trunk release. The fuel cell is in the trunk and there are no locks on the car so it's the only way to open it.
