1966 Chevelle Malibu 300 with 283 & glide, pulled the 283 bought a 396 375hp of course changed mounts and driveshaft etc...

Got busted doing 107 mph in school zone, me and a buddy (he had 69 Mach 1) bet 50 on a race, drove our cars to school uncorked with cheater slicks. We skipped 3rd period and like to dufus heads ran behind our highschool, the cops got word of it and set up on us and we did not know it.

Long story short: tickets for 87 mph over, non dot tires, open exhaust, exhibition of speed, only reason I did not go to jail was I knew the officer I did win the 50 though..LOL

I bought a '69 Chevelle SS396 project as my own HS graduation gift. Oh, my bad!! I still got it. ( lol ) I did drag it out of storage this year, after a 17 yr. layoff from the track. That old heap didn't forget a thing. 2 wins in 3 finals, a couple of semis and a third place finish in Maple Grove Street. After 30yrs. I think I'll keep it. E

My third car, 1967 Shelby GT500 4spd. I got the car with a 427 in place of the 428, never drove a faster street car. I sold it in 1979 for $4,500.
I'm building a clone stocker because I can't afford a real one nor would I make one into a race car.

Jan. 1969, 19 yrs. old and decided I wanted to order new car for summer before the draft would get me. Dad (co-signer), me and my brother went to local Chevy dealer and ordered 69 Camaro, 396/375, M21 4-speed, 4:10 Posi, Fathom Green, black interior. Ran AHRA Formula 2 D/S, 12.60@108,great memories! Got drafted, got married, sold car, tried finding it 10 yrs. later. Car was destroyed in accident sometime in 1979, couldn't even eat supper the night I found out, sure miss that car. 21 1969 different Camaros later, it still can't be replaced.

Still have fond memories of my 1967 Mustang 289 hi po 3speed single exhaust that I gradually converted to a copy of Steve McQueen's Bullitt Mustang. Best back seat for Drive in's and all the extra activities that went on in those years. CR

Oh yeah, 1st car was a '67 390 GT fastback , the fold down back seat was handy!

'69 Dodge Charger RT, Green/Green interior/Green vyn. top with white RT stripe, 440 mag with AC. Owned for 17 years, sold it when Mopar prices went to the moon to help put 2 daughters through medical school. I'd do it again but I still wouldn't like it! lol.

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

Not sure where to start here. I've had a bunch of cars over the years, some classics, most fixer uppers, all kinda neat one way or another. Here's a partial list from memory:
1.57 Chevy Nomad. 327, four speed, previously owned by too many kids, fun driver, sold in 1976 to a collector.
2.'65 GTO tri power, red, black interior, four speed convertible. Insanely fast driver. It was all original and complete shoulda coulda woulda kept it, traded it for:
3.Red 62 Chevy impala hardtop with a 348/250 engine. Due to the fact that smog controls were requiring a retrofit device that made cars run badly in an attempt to weed out all the older cars, I installed a 280 horse tri-power on it,since the smog law exempted multiple carbs. I swapped in a Muncie 4 speed and a one piece drive shaft, car busted third members if you didn't try too hard. Great driver.
4. Red 62 Biscayne 2 door post car. Had a 409 with quads but no trans or shifter. It sat in storage for a while, then in a weak moment, I sold it to a big fat idiot down in Long Beach. He didn't want to finish paying for it, so he never got the pink. Later, I saw the car at OCIR, new plates and tags. He had bought a 62 Impala for parts, I strongly suspect he registered it, swapped VIN tags, and scrapped the Impala. If you ever see a 62 409 Biscayne for sale, probably a bracket car , and it has VIN# starting out 21847XXXXXX, that's what probably happened.
5.69 Plymouth road Runner, 383, 4 speed,3.23 gears, fast driver, great car.Orange, black interior, black vinyl top. I sold it in 1976, got my money out of it.It went 15.22 at Irwindale in 1976, street tires, no posi.
6 '58 Edsel Citation convertible. I bought it on a whim for $400.00 from the original owner. He came in and bought gas from me one day, I asked him what he was going to do with it, he said, Do you wanna buy it?Give me $400.00. When I picked it up and drove the E bomb home, my buddies told me,"We all knew you were crazy, this just proves it."Fun making the push button transmission work again. That was the car with the push buttons in the middle of the steering wheel. Kind of a fun car to drive around in,however.I sold it to a collector in 1975. He just sold it to another collector in Pennsylvania a few years back.
7. 70 Chevy Monte Carlo . 402, 400 trans, 12 bolt, red, black vinyl top, black bench seat interior, power windows,A/C, etc. Sold it to my brother in 1976 when he got married. New wife couldn't drive the Road Runner, it was a 4 speed. Car looked just like Doug Marion's econo performer project car from Super Chevy in the early 1980's.
8. 62 Chevy Bel Air bubble top, factory 409 car. Bought it as a roller in 1977, never got around to it, sold it to another 409 buddy. Car did get restored eventually.Red with a red interior.
That's just a partial list. If I had all these cars back, where would I put them all? Fun reminiscing about this, however.Cars I enjoyed the most, however, are my red Stock Eliminator 68 Chevelles.

I owned the fastest muscle cars you could buy: 5 Hemi cars, L 88, 2 396/375 Novas, '691/2 440 six pack and others but the car I had the most fun with was a 1964 Valiant Signet with a 225 slant six and a 4 speed. What a fun car, you could street race it and no one knew because it was so plain plus I put it on a couple of 330 cu Old's and 326 Tempest's!

JimR

BTW I broke four 7 1/4 rearends in one year!

1st car, 1960 chevy sedan delivery with my dads spare junior stock 283/283 fuel injected engine with a muncie 4 speed. Nothing finer than owning a panel wagon in high school!!! If anyone knows whereabouts of a restoreable one please pm me.

69 Z28 a very strange optioned car, it had the endura front bumper, flat hood, no rear deck spoiler, rear mounted antenna, no console, vinyl top, stereo amplifier with 4 speakers. It was yellow with black stripes

300 HP 65 chevelle, 4 speed, convertible. Gave $200 dollars for it in 71. What an idiot!

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

The first car I drove that was fun was a friend's 65 Valiant with a transplanted Barracuda 273 Formula S engine, 4 speed. The car I always wanted since they came out was the 66 442 W30. Danny Lattimore will remember my searching for one in 1973.

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

1967 Dodge R/T 2 door hardtop Red, Black interior and Black vinyl top, Torqueflite, 3.55 Sure Grip axle. I was big into street racing in those days while going to college. Switched in 4.30 gears, Atlas Bucrons, recurved distributor, fattened up the carb and traded the air cleaner top for one that said 383 instead of 440. I made a lot of money with that car until everybody woke up that it was not a 383. Finished college, got drafted and said bye bye to the MOPAR.

I had a 69 Ram-Air 4 GTO automatic which got the Royal-Bobcat paint scheme and spoiler as soon as it got unloaded of the transporter...the car was just bad-fast ,,,It was hard on valve springs but it was lots of fun,, My brother actually ordered it new I got it a year later in high school. Yes I regret selling that car !!!!

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

I have 3 but in no particular order.

1970 340 4spd Dart Swinger..Dark green w black bench seat guts. I've owned multiple 6bbl and Hemi cars but that 340 was an absolute kick and darn hard to beat stop light to stop light!

1966 Mustang 2+2..271/289 4spd. Paid $300 for it turn key out of a neighbors back yard in 78..Man would that 289 sing but darn 340's kept beating me so I traded it for one..lol!

1967 Mustang FB 390 C-6..390 was swapped out for a tuned 427 MR..won some pretty good money street racing back in the late 70's.

I would have to say my old SS/JA Volare (I think gordie still has), at the time, it was deadly consistant however, the driver sucked (me), once I figured all this out, it was too late.

After, I'd have to say driving Rod's '70 Dart and '72 Demon with stick really sold me. Miss shifting gears.....

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

In 1972,I was driving a 69 Z-28 back and forth to high school. I've never seen one like it, so I guess this would be my choice. It was Olympic Gold w/black stripes and a Rally sport to boot. And it had a black vinyl top. Kind of an ugly car, no wonder there were not many of them!.We took that little 302 out of it and stuck an L-88 in. Pretty nasty beast for a 16 year old kid. Ran 11.80's and back then that was stellar. Now it would be a sled....

I'm pretty much a dyed-the-wool mopar guy. I still have my favorite car. The car that I sold and wish I had back is a '56 Ford P/U, short bed, full back window with a 271/289 HiPro. I went through 4 transmission rebuilds in 2 years. That light duty truck 3 speed just wouldn't hold a cluster gear behind the high winding small block.

I've owned a hell of a bunch of cars through the years, but I'd have to say these were my favs....

'65 Malibu SS - L79 - White Exterior - 2 Tone Red Interior

'72 Impala 2 door coupe - 400" - Desert Sand Metallic - Tan Vinyl Top & Interior (24-25 mpg @ 75 mph) 18-19 mpg @ 55)

The 1967 Camaro RS in my avatar, sweet little 327, turbo 350, Dana 60 with 4.88s.
Fiberglass L88 hood....
Went countless rounds in that car, and won more street races than I can remember.
Sold it to take care of my family, would make the same decision today, but I miss that car every day.

1968 Chevelle bench seat 4 speed. Bought at GMAC repo auction in the summer of 1968. Found out after buying it that the original owner was stuck paying off the original note which was way more that what I paid. Found out after buying that car was a faactory sort or rare. 325-325 hp, 12 bolt posi bench seat Malibu. was redd so had to paint beloww the side chrome, the rear insert, and black out the grille like an SS. Would flat outrun many a 396 ss, but then they all figured that was what it was anyway. Kept it until the rear wheel wells rusted out and the rear window sssstarted rusting out. Should have kept it and "restored" it.

1963 Biscayne, Z11, aluminum car. I only had it a short time before being drafted into the Army. Obviously, 2 door, radio and heater delete. I broke the engine (still have the carbs around here somewhere). Put in a 327, with the 4 speed and 4.56 rear end. Sold it for $1,000 in 1966.

Greg Reimer 7376 12-16-2012 09:35 PM

Re: What car did you own, and would give anything to have ba

That 327/325 was a neat piece. It had the same long block as the 327/350 of 66-67,and was a 4 speed only motor. It definitely with some tuning hold its own,the only difference between the 350 horse was the #803 intake and the quadrajet. It had 2.02/1.60 valves, 11.00 compression, the 151 camshaft, and only needed a good set of headers and a dyno tune to really bring it out. Yeah, shoulda kept it.

It's a toss up between my 1969 Ford Cobra Torino, 428 CJ bucket seat formal roof, or my 1965 mustang that I bought from 2nd owner that had about 100 street miles on it in its whole life. I ran brackets with it in the early 80s, and sold it for about $2500 back then.

The Torino was sold to a friend of my brother's who still has it to this day.
