Re: "Live" from Indy divisional 2013

Well, today has been more eventful than I would've liked. Warmed the car up making a couple laps around the pits this morning. When they called for our final qualifying session, I went to set the tires and noticed a little puddle under the car. Went to put it up on the open trailer to get a look at what it was, and then the transmission fluid started gushing from it. Thought a fitting had come loose (and they did take some turnin'), but after getting the line out completely, it appears that a line had somehow gotten up against the header. Big thanks to Jeff and Zac Ross (the fine folks I bought the car from many years ago) who went from checking up on me to jumping in with both feet, and coming up with a line to loop the trans and take the bad cooler line out of the system for the time being. I guess it was kinda like having visitation rights for his old baby... and was 'rewarded' with the smelly diaper.

Whatever you do, don't ask Jeff what transmission fluid smells like.

Stock's in the lanes for first round now, with Super Stock to follow.

Re: "Live" from Indy divisional 2013

Well 1st round is in the books and it did not go our way. We had a great race with Rick Winchester and we broke out by .001 more than he did. The temp dropped about 10 degrees after they called us up and the tail wind came back. Lots of break outs. In the race for the Jegs, Jeff Taylor blew an engine against Lyn Smith. Lyn said he wanted to tell him that he knew a great engine builder. LOL Then Andrew Hill who was in 2nd red-lighted. A few no-shows first round. Antrobius was broke, Tool was a no-show. Roz Gresens won after having problems at the starting line, but then Gary Summers didn't look back and broke out!

I don't know yet if we are staying tonight or not. We are going to get loaded up and then make a decision. Seems like a good night for drowning our sorrows! Steve Schmidt Racing Engines is sponsoring a dinner tonight and that sounds good!

Well they got thru super stock and a little of Super gas before the rain came.

Thanks to Steve Schmidt for the nice barbq dinner tonight. And it was nice and warm in the tent!

Rained out. Still about 450 cars left out of 575. We will reconvene next Sat-Sun, with a detailed schedule to be posted on www.nhradiv3.com. Everyone can leave their rigs.

Tough break, especially for all those who are entered at the Southern Nationals next weekend. Ironic how much of the country still struggles with long term drought when it seems they just need to schedule a drag race.

Re: "Live" from Indy divisional 2013

Well we are on our way back home and have driven out of the rain.

They had a meeting this morning of the Sportsmen Advisory Committee before they cancelled everything til next weekend. I didn't hear the reason they gave for not holding it over until tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be beautiful 70s and sunny. I know if we were still in, we would have rather stayed another night and ran tomorrow instead of all the expense of going home and coming back next weekend. Even the people that are still working and not retired would be better off financially missing a day's pay rather than the fuel expense of going home and coming back again! And then there are quite a few who are entered in Atlanta next weekend.

Here's a few shots I took yesterday at Indy. It was great to have a day off where I could check out some of my favorite racing action. I have about 350 pics of just Stock and Super Stock and will be putting a few more up and also putting some on my Stock and Super Stock Drag Racing Facebook page too, as time permits.....

I have to say that the AMX & Challenger pairing shown are the two best looking pairs shown! Of course I'm partial to the AMX but that Ross Family Challenger is REALLY nice!
And an atta boy to Garrett Ghezzi for being the #7 qualifier (and the only "traditional" muscle car in the top 10 of qualifying).

I used to work at Precision Alignment, in Middletown, IN... Garrett Ghezzi brought his AMX, there, to get it aligned, a couple years ago...He has taken it there, over the years.... That car hauls, to have a 273 in it! Pretty dang awesome!~

It would slow down with a 273...that's an AMC 290!

According to the Weather Channel (and we are almost a week out), by Thursday we are supposed to get a low that drops out of the jet stream and is cut off and will bring a lot of rain into the central part of the US before getting out. Cooler temps will also accompany it.

You might have the same as this weekend.

The track hooked pretty good all weekend for us. The starting line crew stayed on top of it. Thanks guys!

The track announcers were just ok. But they should have turned on more than 1 speaker in the stands. You could not hear anything hardly at all. And we missed you Leo! Hurry and get well soon!

Thanks again to Steve Schmidt for putting on the big barbq on Saturday night. And thanks for having it in that nice dry and warm tent! The food was A-ok!

Good luck to all you guys that are going back next weekend! We were entered at Atlanta for the National event, but after seeing how NHRA handled the Sportsmen racers in the rain at Houston, we decided to go to the double combo race at Bowling Green! It is calling for rain in Atlanta all 3 days!

When I saw the qual sheet, I was pretty impressed that he could get a 343 to run that hard. A 290 gets him serious respect from me. It's not like you can choose from thousands of parts or rely on 30 years of technology.

Re: "Live" from Indy divisional 2013

We're back at Indy to finish up last week's LODRS. The track is allowing everyone one time run today, and then tomorrow we set to eliminating down from the 450 or so entries that remain from last week. Pits are pretty lean, so it's hard to say if people are just going to come in overnight or early in the morning, or if there will be some holes on the ladder.

It's a somewhat bright overcast. Despite the week's forecast, it's actually pretty nice out. The wind is very close to the conditions that we experienced first round last week, a 3-5 mph crosstail. The barometer is down another .13 from last week. My pass was pretty close to first round last week. It's tried to spit a tiny bit, but no real holdups. The larger area of weather is moving north and west of us.

Almost everyone I've talked to today has asked about the Northern Class Nationals. We are now one year away from the big S/SS extravaganza to be held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH! I started putting together a preliminary flyer last night so I'll be able to flesh out some details and have something physical in hand to better explain to prospective sponsors and advertisers how the program is laid out.
