Re: WA Lee 1969 Chevelle Wagon
That car and Willy were are "arch enemies" in 1979. We battled for the division title the whole year. Willy wound up winning the division and the number 11.
But we wound up with the number 1. He was one of the first people we called after winning it. RIP Willy it was great racing with you. |
Re: WA Lee 1969 Chevelle Wagon
the last time i saw lee and ray liddy, they were selling parts together in the same booth at the winter swap meet in the better living center on the big e fairgrounds. i think about 1992. what year did he die and what were the circumstances?

This IS the W A Lee car that you own. You bought it from Tommy who lives in the Utica, NY area. I have shared much info about the car with Mike. I do like the front plate that was made for the wagon. A great tribute to WA. |

Not sure of the place though...can you help? Think Willy had the car painted twice after that...the next job had the familiar "WA Lee and Wife" lettering on the car...and then the last had the infamous upside-down lettering on the car... How'd I do guys? |

Alan Signs did the upside down lettering over the next paint job after the one shown here. Later you will see the lettering blocked out in the Sportsnat's video. Not a repaint per se. |
Re: WA Lee 1969 Chevelle Wagon
What is really nice about a Chevelle wagon is the fact that the front/rear weight split is definitely an advantage. Easy car to drive too which will make it all the more fun.
I am not familiar with this particular car, is it a big block? |

Is the "upside down lettering" similar to Harry Potter and "he who must not be named" thing? Lol..anyway the Miller Killer lettering wasn't on long...I remember it well...I loved growing up on the track. Jamie |

Re: WA Lee 1969 Chevelle Wagon
I am loving all the interest around the wagon and to hear the old stories are amazing. I tried to upload some pictures of the wagon the way it is now but I am getting the message that they are too large. I do have an album of a couple pictures if anyone is interested in seeing it currently.

Re: WA Lee 1969 Chevelle Wagon
Well hello Pudgie... I remember you 😊...and I remember the 409 wagon too..that was the around town car as well nobody thought it could beat them.

Lee managed to outrun Tex in a heads up run somewhere (can't remember where) As you can imagine, Tex didn't take it too well. Next event, Lee shows up with "MILLER KILLER" in upside down lettering on the sides of his car. He later blocked it out ..Maybe Marc remembers why. |

But just ask "good old Dad" he will tell you the whole story unedited of course! or just call me at work and i"ll meet you down the cafeteria between shifts and tell you how much i know BTW i remember Lee was going to build a 70 402 chevelle wagon for stock years ago. |

Ask Bob Broadbent, I believe he saw the whole thing. It was Englishtown, at the scales, maybe '78 or '79...
