Was just checking the posted results on DRC and they seem to be way behind. Are there weather issues or down time on the track due to issues there???

What was the deal with all of the "no shows" in Round 1?

Ellis, there was no discernible explanation for the surprising number of single runs other than random breakage. By the end of the day yesterday we had heard that Clark Holroyd was broken and that Tom Brown was headed home after slowing inexplicably on the second and third run. There were no teardowns and, as far as I know, no disqualifications.

Due to the overnight rains, it took until approximately 9 AM to get the track into condition for racing. There was no precipitation after sunrise but the humidity was high, the sun was blocked by the departing storm and and the temperature was low. This morning, as per usual practice in Division 7, three pairs were designated to be in the lanes first to begin eliminations. All the broken-car singles were sent to the front of the lanes so the day began with what seemed like an inordinate number of singles.

Other than one extended oil-down that occurred during the seventh pairing, the round was uneventful. Re-capping afterward, there seemed to be common agreement that ETs recorded after about half the field had run seemed to improve unexpectedly although not all weather stations picked up noticeable variations.

It's not much of an explanation but that's what I saw.

Thanks for the update on morning conditions. I figured something was causing a slight delay. Sounds like the rest of the day went according to schedule.

A few thoughts on the Round two "Monster-Match" between Dan and Peter. Doubt that was the way they planned the ladder, but maybe there was a better reason to have it that way. It's gonna be interesting in that it will be the first lap of the day, instead of toward the end of a race where they are hot lapping and able to fine tune the dial a little bit, as well as tree. Don't think there's much chance that either will not be able to run the dial on the car. Would love to see the race, just hope there is a nice safe race with no red light and no front tire smoke. Hopefully they will announce the total National Event Wins between the two drivers

In addition to all the round one singles, this pair was missing completely:

34 7265 T Brown K/SA -0.807
69 7911 C Holroyd A/S -0.018

Brown & Holroyd were both no-shows, giving Tony Hewes a competition single in round two. Hewes surprisingly beat Chuck Rayburn to the stripe by a little over a foot in round one despite Rayburn's 0.006 light.

#1 (Bystrom) versus #6 (Smith) in round four of SS heads up-should be a good race.

I See that Jerry Hatch is going to round 5 in Stock.....Is this right, he is from Lubec, Maine???? That is as far as you can get from Pomona and still be in the US......LOL
Question....the Duster he is driving.....is that the one Steve Wann had last year, and sold?

Yes it is Steve's old duster. Steve is here helping Jerry with tune up and dialing

Yes, Jerry is from Lubec Maine, and Lubec is very close to the Eastern most point of the US. I'm in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada which is Northeast of Lubec. I used to race with Jerry at the defunct Pennfield Dragway in New Brunswick. Great to see him doing well in Pomona!

SStockDart 02-08-2014 09:08 PM

Re: Almost live from 2014 Winternationals

Well, that figures.......another Steve Wann car and driver, doing well.....congratulations to Jerry. Also, another "former" Steve Wann car.....Jacob Pitt, won Division 4 this year.

I don't know how many miles it is from Lubec, Maine to Pomona......probably 3,500 or so....but based on Jerry's performance at the Winternationals, he will be smiling all the way home....good for him.

To think I only had to drive 1,000 miles to get my engine from Steve.....sounds like a bargain. (and my car is for sale)

Awesome seeing Jerry out there and doing well. Born and raised in Maine myself and Winterport was my home track. Never made it to Penfield before it shut down but married my wife from St. Stephen New Brunswick. :>

Assume this is the car that Hatch bought from Steve? If so its definitely a nice one and Steve is absolutely one of the best for setting up a MOPAR.

Saw it at Sonoma last summer, if it had been a Super Stocker it would have followed me home.

Hey Gary, it's beautiful here in the summer season! There is no better scenery than up the St John River Valley. I'm In Saint John at the mouth of the river (the spelling difference is intentional).

I'm not a fisherman, but a friend is always telling me fishing stories, so I'm guessing it's good !!!

Halifax is about a 4 hour drive.

Hey Rob, Pennfield wasn't the most up to date facility, but it was a great place to race! I'm a friend of the Howes boys, and I almost met you at Epping a while back!!

What is your wife's last name ? I also used to race with folks from the St Stephen area.

Dwight,

The 409 was a part of the eye candy that was parked in the pits of Rodger and Karen Comstock. I didn't count all the cars that were sitting there but there were more than a few. I didn't take the time to examine it in great detail but it looked like a very nice restoration.

Some final thoughts on 2014 Winternationals. In stock there were 29 red lights, 3 heads up,5 singles and 7 no shows. There was only 58 races because of the singles and no shows. almost half were decided by the red light All the heads up were in A/SA There were 10 A/SA in the field. Last years World Finals had 9 A/SA in the field with no heads up. Super Stock had 23 red lights, 3 heads up, 4 singles and 3 no shows.

I'm sure it wasn't any of Rose's family, but her last name is Scott. It's amazing seeing families like the Howes and Armstrongs traveling as far as they do to race! Maybe I will meet you this year.

Re: Almost live from 2014 Winternationals

That race would have been one for the books. Depending on dial-ins the handicap would have been about 7 seconds. You would be a speck on the dragstrip when John launched and began his hunt. It would have made a GREAT You Tube video.

Thanks for the stats.I thought the racing was pretty boring because of so many redlights.Glad to see somebody keep track of them.
