Just had a beer at the clubhouse with Chris and Rod Butcher, Boucher motor in the car. He does own a Bub motor, but it is not in the car at this event

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Good morning - And for the first time this weekend I can give you accurate weather readings as I finally came up with my charger late yesterday .But first I'll tell you the rains have passed and things are starting to dry out .Its still a little cloudy but the Sun is trying to peek thru .All good things after a night of cold rain .
Not sure if the start time this AM will be as planned because of the wet conditions but I'll try and keep you folks informed . A little later .......... |
Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
The latest is that we will have a 10am start - Stock will be out first .The Jet is running and drying the surfaces as I type .A bit breezy this morning but the Sun is brite and a high of 70 degrees is expected this afternoon .........more as it happens!

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Thanks for the updates, and congrats to the record setters and John Bender on his quickest-ever pass of 10.84/120 mph.

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Do you know what records were set? and How quick?
My V10 "brother" Dave Thomas must not have gotten back together he was showing at the bottom of the ladder Hope he gets to run Ron |
Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Both Stock and S/S got their first rounds in - Stock is in the lanes for rd2 .Many runouts in both .Marc LaBrecque broke an engine in the waterbox.Chris Butcher couldn't make the first round call .Several others couldn't stay for today ..........

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
I have a question about setting a record at a national open. It apears that runs during test / tune before the race can count towards a record. Is this correct.
|
Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Good news - the rains have stopped - the Sun is out and they may be able to finish tonight if another storm doesn't come along .Second round of S/S is in .
More good news - Our own RV expert Marc La Brecque didn't hurt his motor as bad as earlier thought - damage might be limited to valvetrain parts .On the other side of the coin is Dave Casey who also suffered damage in his first round matchup-maybe he'll be lucky also . |

Nice job to the winners and runner up's. Thanks Jack for your colorful reporting, great job as always.
Before I left I got a few shots of Ron Infantino's 69 G/SA Camaro. As you can tell by the colors of Class Racer I love orange. Ron's paint is a very cool orange and flips in the sun. |

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Happy Sunday boys and girls - I couldn't let this thread go away without telling all of you my thoughts of how this race went .In my humble opinion this was one of Division One's and Atco Raceway's finest hours . Considering we had plenty of wind , rain and even some low temps they managed to get it off in record time and most of us got home Saturday night so we could relax today .Cudo's to both teams ......
Things we haven't talked about yet ----- How about the Connecticut flash - Fast Eddie Bednaz with his freshly painted Tuxedo black '69 big block Nova B/S winning 'Best Appearing Car' .Or we could talk about not needing a fast car to win races - just look at our S/S winner Larry Jewell who could only manage going sixty under in his 'lil red Corvette while winning or the runner-up to him - Richard Kay in his ice-box white '69 Valiant who went a best of 4 tenths under .Really ?? You bet both of them were driving well . And then there was the David and Goliath CIC race between Bongiovanni and Szupka - you can't script stuff like that . And then there's Ron Dicks - we all know him from the lanes at Raceway Park - who lives in Perkasie , PA - thats right - Perkasie - the former hometown of Vargo Dragway .Or former racer Jerry Noonan from Monroe Twsp ,NJ ( can't guess where Monroe Twsp is ) showing up in a fresh Camaro COPO . And we could talk about Ron Infantino's orange pearl '69 Camaro .....I could go on and on but it was some event - you had to be there .But if you weren't ....don't miss next year ! ! ! |

Re: Live from Atco, NJ - NHRA PC Richard National Open
Few more notes
Ed Bednaz's Nova was painted by Milt Sutherland, father to S/S racers Gregg and Paul. It is black and it is straight and well deserving of best appearing, not to be left out is Ed put a lot of time in putting it back together and doing all the detail work which is excellent to say the least. The race ran great, nice job by all involved, I did not get there till 430 fri and still got teched and a TT. Thanks to Atco and the D1 crew I broke a rocker stud in the second round against Steve Szupka , it in turn broke a lifter and the motor is out and I will be surveying the damage tonight. The shortblock maybe toast. Left the track at 5 am, had a little trouble getting out as all the gates were locked. till someone showed us the secret chain,,, and we were on the road. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon Dave |
