Good morning all, its a picture perfect day, sunny with the temps in the low 70's today. The only issues for this mornings eliminations is the strong tail wind. Getting the right dial will be tough.
Here a few shots of racers that are still in getting ready for this mornings action. Stock is out first with a 10:15 start. Jack had to leave for business reasons, so todays reports will be from me. It will be a short version as I will be heading out after a few rounds of stk/ss. |
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
Stock is done with their second round and Super Stock just finished up with their first. There was a unfortunate incident were Joe Santangalo missed his run by a few minutes. Everyone knows how much of a supporter I am of NHRA, probably to much so, but they really screwed up this time.
Joe just finished running a heads up in stock, and as most know heads up races are usually last. Super Comp finished up quick with only 15 pair to run between stk and ss. Joe's opponent, Robert Panza was told to go to the burnout box and then told to do his burnout and stage. Joe was being escorted through the pits by NHRA officials to get there as fast as he can, he was parked way past the finish line. Joe got up there and needed no more than 30 seconds to get ready, NHRA told Robert to stage and the rest is history. What a terrible call by the NHRA officials, there were many cars all ready paired up and ready to go. Its amazing that the pit officials were escorting Joe and the track officials were telling Robert to race, do they use the same radios or what. Just a little common sense would have made this a none issue. Now NHRA has two race teams upset with each other for a bad call. I have lots of photos of stk/ss, as soon as I finish editing, I will post them. |

I hope Joe didn't get ugly with them because it will probably cost him more than his entry fee. If he did I'll donate.

8pm and Supergas has never been down the track...what a Sh!t show. I particularly like what they did to Mr Santangelo, nice guy and good racer gets screwed. everyday people ask me why I do not race NHRA events, prestige my *****, it is only as important as an individual makes it. MIR in two weeks, Thank you.

Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
It's ridiculous and to think I was actually trying to get in for this torture....
Now I am very happy I was not able to get in....and this is the exact reason why I have not run an NHRA national event for many years.... |

Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
Does anyone know if NHRA did their jobs and have cars go to the barn? If not, why not, what are we paying for with our membership and ridiculous entry fees to NHRA? NHRA is supposed to do their "do diligence" and make sure that all the cars in the field are within spec. When I went to Englishtown back in the 70's and 80's, I was one of the cars always picked for tear down. Didn't matter where you qualified, you could be the one of many to be taken apart. (usually 10 to 15 stockers alone) I personally don't care, I would take my car apart anywhere no matter if I'm last on the Q sheet where I usually hang out.
I want to see cars come apart, not to make money for NHRA, but to see if all the players are fair and square. Casey Miles 248H "F" NHRA Stock! |

Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
The Santangelo's obviously got screwed, because of a failure to communicate.
I have said this to my friends for years, if I still raced, you wouldn't see me at a NHRA national event. What a joke, they should admit their mistake, and refund his entry fee. |
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
It looks like Joe was in the first three pairs in superstock.
|
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
Yes, I did fail to mention that Joe was one of the three designated pair to run first. What I don't understand is why the officials did not pull the many cars that were already paired up and ready to go.
I know that rules are rules and we all know them, but a little common sense and courtesy towards the racer could have been easily applied with no time delay. |
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
C&W, sorry to disappoint you, but you're dead wrong, there's zero percent chance NHRA would have waited for anyone in this situation. Its a far different scenario than being in with two cars in late rounds and NHRA waiting for you to get back with the second one. Anyone that runs two cars is afforded that simple courtesy. Joe has been in that situation many times.
This is the designated first 3 pairs deal that seems to make everyone sooooo friggin' happy. Joe is a friend of mine. He has driven my car before. I haven't spoke to him about this, but I can only guess he wasn't aware he was a designated pair. Simple to address if he was aware, even being last in stock with 15 pairs of sc in between. Drive the stocker to scales, park it, scooter it up to the ss car that dad had waiting in the lanes. End of story. I guarantee it won't happen to him again. I love to rail against the machine as much as the next guy, but I'm missing where NHRA did anything wrong. |
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
I took this video of this C/SA heads up race between Joe Santangelo driving Anthony Bertozzi's 1969 Camaro and Paul Cambria in his 1994 Camaro, Joe gets the win. Its not the best quality, but thought it was still worth posting.

Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
Is it posted somewhere who the first 3 pairs for first round or announced?
|
Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
If you look at the bottom of the Eliminator ladder the three highest qualified vehicles, and the competitors they are paired with, will be the first out for the first round. The NHRA started doing this last year.

Re: Live from Englishtown,NJ - NHRA Summernationals
I was one of the first three pair out at last years Gators, 2013. I was notified by NHRA e-mail on Tuesday before the race, of the first three pair out rule, which was a new thing.
Nobody came up to me to tell me that I was one of them as I was real slow at that event and qualified in the bottom three. I went to the scales in the morning as I was warming the car up and asked if I was one of the three on the bottom. The tech guy looked it up and said yes, you better get up there. Being an idiot and not having a watch with me i went back to my pit area to pic up my cell phone which was charging. As i got into the car I heard the first pair go out and halled butt to the lane to miss out by about 45 seconds. This year at the Gators I was on the bottom three again but was told several times by officials who came by the previous day and in the morning. It is the racers responsibility to know what is going on, but if I had been informed like this year, last years situation would have been avoidable. I presume that NHRA should be aware of this situation now in its second year of enforcement and take the necessary steps to provide their "customers" with competition related information. Now if they only would get rid of scales and fuel check during competition unless it is heads up, but that's for another thread Ron Ortiz U/SA been there done that |
