184 cars made the first run. Our day has not started well. We broke our transmission. Lots of cars way under. Lots did not make it down the track very well. More later.

184 cars on the Stock sheet after Q1. Guessing there are a handful that didn't run.

After Q1, Holbrook leads with his FS/A Cobra Jet 8.68 (-1.42).

Anyone know why Hebert in the Reher-Morrison '68 Cuda is running Super Comp instead of Super Stock? Seems strange to see it pull out of the lanes alongside a bunch of dragsters.

The car that wrecked is pitted right across the road from us. Jeff was helping unload it off the wrecker and winched into his trailer. He seems fine except the car.

He did get out and walk to the ambulance. He hit the net very fast! Couldn't even see tire marks In the sand. All that matters is he is okay.

Colvert's '69 Mustang was clocked at 9.399 seconds and 141.62 mph at the finish line, but the car did not slow down as usual and went off the end of the track at a high enough speed that it went through the sand and into the multiple-net system. The momentum was so high that the car flipped upside down.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. - 12:41 p.m. Racing is on hold at Lucas Oil Raceway Park, but not for the usual reason.

The predicted rain has not materialized today, but the safety nets at the end of the sand trap were demolished when Jeff Colvert, from Arkadelphia, Arkansas, gave it a severe test during the first Super Stock qualifying session.

Colvert's '69 Mustang was clocked at 9.399 seconds and 141.62 mph at the finish line, but the car did not slow down as usual and went off the end of the track at a high enough speed that it went through the sand and into the multiple-net system. The momentum was so high that the car flipped upside down.

The safety systems did their job, Colvert walked away. However, the Safety Safari has been working hard for the last hour rebuilding the net system and are estimating it will take about an hour more to get back to a safe racing condition.

About half of the 180 Super Stock entries made runs before the accident happened.

We are back running after that lengthy delay. Sad to see the damage to Jeff Colvert's car but thankful that he's okay.
