Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

For anyone who is wondering, the data is constantly being updated to keep up with published changes. That means that the hp updates from LODRS 1-2 and 3-2 are included, and the changes to the approved fuel list.

Working to help the racer!

Thanks!

Dwight, How do I find wt breaks and specs for SSCS etc type classes. I am going to try to figure a "Spec" motor car and want it to fit an available class so it can run at pts meets as a test site. Car would be 9.5 or 10 lb car. No new rule book so cannot decide if closer to mod classes or?

There used to be a link on here with all the S/SS weight breaks, but it would have been outdated (I wrote it for this site in 2011 or so). The link I wrote above has all the new factory Classes.

Dwight,
I noticed you do not have the 267 / 150 motor listed under the '81 Camaro classification tab ? I believe this is the combo Lee runs in his D2 Camaro in U/SA. Great site, thanks for all your hard work !

Thanks for pointing that out, Joe! Corrected it this morning along with the full size body.
How are you doing with the 305 180?

Had an accident back on Aug.30 falling from a tree I was cutting down. Fractured my pelvis in 2 places and fractured my rt. hip requiring surgery. So, have not not been able to work on the Camaro much since. Car is back from body shop with fresh paint ( victory red) and converted to manual steering. Next I will tackle converting to manual brakes and install line-loc. Process will be slow but I am chomping at the bit to get it finished. Have accumulated several parts and plan on this being a nice build once complete. I believe the 305/180 will be a viable combo for R/T/U stock and looking forward to having some fun with it. Thanks for asking ! - JOE

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

Gosh! I am so sorry to hear! I hope you have a full recovery, and soon!

But I am glad you are continuing with the build. I too think there is lots of potential in the 305-180 combination. Good luck and keep me posted with the progress!

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

I am working diligently to get all the hp changes in the CRI database. I will make a big announcement when the project is finished. There are also some programming changes going in that will address some of the problems with the Mopars and Fords that have multiple ratings for the same engine in different body styles of the same model. Some cosmetic additions are also being worked on to make reading the large pages easier.

GM and Mopar hp changes are done. Some of early Ford.... I am reviewing everything!! If you find something that is not right, please let me know!!

Thanks for all the support!

End of 2015 Updates Are Done!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Larry!

The latest power factor changes and tech bulletin updates are done!

Dwight Southerland 01-01-2016 02:19 PM

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

1/1/2016 New stuff for ClassRacerInfo web site!!
  • All the changes from NHRA in the class guides (new power factors) and tech bulletins are in the database.
  • The new F/SAA class added to classifications. (I guessed on the indexes since NHRA has not published them yet.)
  • Fixed some bugs that kept from calculating correct classifications when multiple factors were applied to different bodies of the same model car. This especially affected the 1971-74 Mopar 340 cars.
  • Added panel background coloring for the classification grids so that all the data for a particular engine is easier to visualize on the chart.
  • Added the dates of the power factors to the classification grid.
Currently working on:
  • A way to show odd power factors for the same engine like ram air options, the 63-64 Chevrolets with differences for the WCFB and Rochester carbs, the Chev 454s with the 236 vs the 292 heads, and others.
  • Adding text information for engines and cars. (more on this later!)

Enjoy!!

2) Correction of the head and intake casting numbers for the 77 Ford 302 engines.
3) Addition of another set of carburetors (big ones!) for the 67 Ford 427-425.
4) Horsepower factor change for the 2010 Cobra Jet 352-385hp automatic for Stock.

2016 COPO Camaros are now in the database.

Enjoy!!

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

All the HP updates and accepted products updates are current.

I try to get that information into the database quickly so you can have the latest stuff from NHRA tech. If I do not post an announcement here, that does not mean that the updates have not been applied. Check on the website first. On the opening page, the right column lists all the changes and I update that whenever new data in available.

Thanks for all the support!!

Dwight Southerland 06-01-2016 02:51 PM

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

AHFS updates from 6/1/16 in the database.

1) 1975 Ford 302/129-134 changed to 140 for Mustang.
2) 1971 454/425-424 GT/Super Stock with automatic changed to 447.

Thanks!!

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

All the mid year hp changes are in the database along with the other corrections to Chevy cylinder heads, Ford CJ cylinder heads and the Dodge DragPak piston spec.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Of course there have been many immediate hits along the way that keeps the mid year list from being so long.

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

NHRA adjusted the '66 327-275hp Chevy II back to 274 from the earlier-in-the-week bump to 278 and the change is posted.

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

Dwight, you have done an awesome job with this site. It is easy to use and extremely helpful when wanting to know info about a certain combo. I have told several people about it and referred a few to it.

Whenever I need info about a certain combo or am looking up info about cars that I ran or have helped with over the years, your site is the first place I go.

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you have put in to your site.

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

Ron -

Thank you for the compliments, the expression of appreciation and the endorsements. My whole purpose was to de-mystify the classification process, de-clutter and simplify the mass of information NHRA has spread all over the place, and just make it as easy as I can for people to get the information they want and need. Hopefully I am getting there and I hope it helps lots of people.

I thought this would be a good thread to add links to the NHRA (and AHRA !!) Rule Books I have found on line.

1980 AHRA Rule Book

Far Out, man! Groovy!

And for completeness, an old link here, 1958-1968 NHRA Rule Books.

The end of the 2016 season AHFS and competitor requests horsepower factor changes are now in the database.

I am working on some more data changes and will post when they are done.

I apologize that this has taken so long but this has been a very busy month with work and the holidays.

Dwight Southerland 12-30-2016 10:22 AM

Re: New website: "What class does this run?"

NHRA has the correct SS/FGT indexes on their website now and those are incorporated. Also, they made some corrections in the list of replacement cylinder heads for small block Chevies in the 1961-1970 combinations that are now in the database.
