Re: Early 1970s Raceway News Scans
Question: Were Manley cams any good? I mean horsepower-wise as compared to the more popular brands like Crane, Isky, General Kinetics, etc.?

Coolest thing about most of these stories are that the runner-up gets almost as much ink as the winners.

I was a "green" kid out of high school...remember a LOT of these cars... How about a weekly program featuring ALL Categories...try doing that TODAY at your local track? Very competitive racing...even if a few tenth's off the National Standards in some cases... That clean '57 Chev wagon of Ed Franks was later run by Claude Urevig...and called the "Tape Peddler" I believe...You might remember him after that with a wheel-standing '71 Chevelle 454 Conv. in SS/EA...... Was Len Mayersohn.....Norm's brother? Lakewood must have made a killing selling "slapper" bars and scattershields! How about the guy with Crane rockers on one side and Mr. Gaskets on the other?......Fun times!! |

Re: Early 1970s Raceway News Scans
Nice One Pete,
Bill Casey and his 57 Chevy 'E/G' were at Dover Drag Strip a lot. He was a 'regular'. 301 Cubic Inches, and 9000 RPM launches. All '4' wheels hopped off the ground when he launched. Incredible suspension. http://111.imagebam.com/download/WFv...y_news-082.JPG http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3...le.php?id=2363 |

Pete,
Those damn 1967 and 1968 Camaro SS-350 cars in SS/I. They fit in nicely {10.00 - 10.49 Wt/Hp} 350/295 HP with the big Quadrajet. http://110.imagebam.com/download/zOy...y_news-132.JPG |
Re: Early 1970s Raceway News Scans
Paul,
Did you ever see that "Easy Glider" wagon at Dover? I noticed the M & M logo on the rear doors of that car...think that was a shop in your area...so the car must have been local.... Any tidbits on M & M....they still around today? |
Re: Early 1970s Raceway News Scans
Pete,
Yes, 'Easy Glider' was a regular at Dover Drag Strip. 1968 thru 1973 It was a 1955 Chevy #210 Townsman Wagon with a {265/180 HP ~ 4-barrel} with a Power-Glide. #3435 lbs. ~ 180 HP = 19.08 Wt/HP Billy Liqouri and Barry Weighall had it, and raced it from 1968 thru 1971 in Stock Class. * 1968 = P/S * 1969 = Q/S * 1970 = R/S * 1971 = R/S In 1972 and 1973 it was classed in SS/V, where it ran right close to the National Record of 13.86. http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3...2716276b0798de |

Pete
Correct El Mundo on the Cuda. I was there that day in 1973 at Dover Drag Strip. A big Super/Stock meet. The Centolanza's blew the clutch apart doing a burn-out in Time Trials and damaged the Transmission. They worked on the Cuda for 2+ Hours, then gave up and packed everything up and went back home to Highland. Dover was mobbed that day. 400+ cars. http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3...le.php?id=3407 |
