Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
Glad he is doing better. Please tell him Ed and Jeanie Wright from Oklahoma are thinking about him. He was always a fun guy to visit with. He always enjoyed kicking my tail. LOL

Here is a picture of his station wagon. This was taken at Carlisle. It has Feb. 1976 on the back of the picture.

You are correct on all. To my surprise, in 1994 is was there, because I was in school at UAMS. I think I surprised a few people in the store being able to pick it out after all those years. I just kept walking toward a window until Robbie asked me what I saw. I saw the fronts, backs, and tattered insides of those cars so much, I could spot them anywhere!! LOL!!!

This was the only time I can remember that one of my dad's Super Stock cars wasn't painted plain old white. It only stayed this color one season I believe, which was in 1973, then back to white.

Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
IIRC he got the car painted for free.
Do you have any pictures of the Challenger? |

Dwight - Check message #34 in this thread.

Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
Mr. Dwight, I certainly hope it was a free paint job. I remember what we all said when he brought that oddly colored thing home. It was awful!!
I think we have some pictures of that Challenger somewhere. I remember it coming piece by piece to the shop on the UPS truck. We usually went to a junk yard, and they paid US to take an Impala home. Not like that with the Challenger. Mr. Kommel, any pictures you have of my dad, I would greatly appreciate. |
Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
Leigh- I may have more down the road as I continue to scan my old negs, but so far, this is the only one I've found. 79 Winternationals

Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
This paint was prior to going to Indy. He painted it white just before the trip. Mostly purple / gold colors in this one if i remember correctly. Think someone in DesArc did it with spray cans. (And some beer !!!)
Fastest ugly car I ever saw. Don't think Dwight ever paid more than $50 for a body back then. lol Hope you find some pics of the Challenger. I was stationed at Little Rock AFB during this time and went overseas at the end of '74. Heard about but never saw the Challenger. http://classracer.com/classforum/att...3&d=1422987159 |

Yes, sir. A guy from Des Arc painted it, I think he used dixie cups too. That car came home with either a cracked head or busted piston. Jake Red and Dwight Cox were not happy. Come to find out, the paint guy was street racing it.
My mom got a laugh out of the "Fastest ugly car". She said she would have to agree with you!! These aren't car pictures, just pictures from the pits. I saw a post from Hardrock, so thought I would post a picture I found of him. The other is the same "ugly car" with Paul "Scooter" Brothers, and Don Jackson. My mom has on the back 1973. I was 6 at the time, and I turned 48 last month so this has been a day or two ago! Those guys put up with me ALL the time! So, it's a little late, but THANKS!! |

Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
Thank you for posting that video!! I loved watching that big old car lumber down the track one more time. We weren't there so I didn't know exactly how much he beat the other guy by, but it was a lot. He always protected that record!! You can tell by the way that front end nose dives. Haha!! Might need those points down the road.

Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
When you find pics of the Challenger, see if you have some of the dragster.
I remember an econo rail or something like that Dwight was supposed to drive. Dang, how does this stuff still float around in my brain and I can't remember what was dinner two days ago!!! |
Re: Pic's of Dwight Cox's race car 74 US Nationals
I remember it being an A/D or B/D. It had a tunnel ram and 2-4s on it.

Mr. Ed, I talked to my dad last night. He talked about your car, and how much he enjoyed when you came to Arkansas to race. He said he would love to talk to you. He wanted me to post his phone number which is 870-674-7514. He would love to talk about the old days. |
