Left side of the Stock ladder called and it starts to lightly sprinkle..........

Heavy gray overcast skies continue to roll in from the west

Lots of spectators!!!

Meet S/S racer Ron Matchum. Ron is the guy that bought Dragway 42 and is transforming it into a first class racing facility. It's been a huge project that has been going for almost 2 years. Ron expects the track to open in July- and I'm looking forward to the IHRA event there in September

Jay sent me the final qualifying data and the ladders are posted on DRC.

2:00. Down again for very light sprinkle. Track has announced that we are in the edge of a cell where 15 miles to the south there is steady rain.

Right hand of of Stock ladder is on hold.

Back to racing. We are moving forward with pre-race ceremonies now, then Alky cars, etc. so the remainder of S/C Q2 will wait, along with E1 of Stock, which was sent back to the pits while it was still sprinkling.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

First the good news - it has stopped drizzling

The bad - Stock Round 1 has been pushed off till later.

We have moved into the Alcohol car qualifying.

Skies look better. But the schedule is way behind.

Got some more decal work done, taking the old single-color cut vinyl M/T decals off of Terry's trailer that I made him in 2005, and replaced them with the full color printed ones that I just took off the Volare last night! Gotta love reusable decals. :-) I made some bigger ones for my car.

Getting some new M/T's mounted during the downtime.

Coming down pretty good now...

Thanks for the updates everyone and please keep them coming as this event has special significance to me since it was the last race I participated in 2012 before I had my stroke, looked it up and actually ran .90 under not too bad for a tired old worn out horse and driver ;)

1st round of stock is in the books. I got lucky when Paul Bolster went red,but he must have felt pressured by the fact that he did not get a qualifing pass.

Things of inteset in the first round. Chuck Beach beat one of Dan Fletcher sons in his COPO Camaro with a .007 package. There were a unusual number of no shows due to the fact that earlier the announcer said that stock was through for the day and did not make the correction soon or clear enough. Some left and some started to consume adult beverages and thought better of showing up after that. I would be pretty upset if I would have done that. Good thing I was taking a nap when that was announced.

I did win the stock wheel stand style and lenght prize ($100.00 each).
Thank you SMP, Joel Rabe and Leo Glassenberner (spelling?). Chris Holbrook won $100.00 ech for #1 qualifer, quickest ET, fastest MPH (160.00) and fan favorite for a total of $400.00.

My wife told that the live feed on D3TV was anything but with stock only showing a few of the single passes. Whats up with that? What did anyone else see?

Even with the weather issues there was a big crowd on Saturday. With a seating capacity of 30,000 I guess there was 10,000 people there. The main grandstands were full. Once the sprinkles were gone the show ran without any issues.

The threat of rain continues through today.

Yeah, but wait until Maple Grove Points Race coming up this weekend Bruce, plus usually Englishtown Points Race has lots of cars.

Sometimes it just depends on the weather forecast too.

Norwalk, is an exception cause of the ice cream, lol.

Although it is up to the individual racer to make decisions about their behavior at the track, if this truly happened, then the round of stock should have been postponed. That is truly unfair to any competitors who are there spending their money to have fun.
If this announcement was an error on the part of the event staff, the NHRA division 3 team as well as the track owners/operators at the very least owe these racers their entry fee back.

The false statement that stock was done and the correction were made in the same announcement, within 10 seconds of each other (where I was, several runs to the cooler were in progress but not completed). The first 3 byes in stock were broken cars. I'm not sure about the last 2.

Bob, sorry that you had some bad luck. Your Grand Prix is very cool, partly because I love drag cars that are different. Whether it's a 72 Comet, an AMC Pacer, an Olds 4-4-2 or you car unique is cool. I love Camaros, Novas, Firebirds and such but get tired of seeing the same models of cars in the staging lanes. I know I'll get some heat for that, but OH WELL.

Hey Mark, thanks for the update on the weight of Bob's car.

By the way congrats to Mike Delahanty for winning Stock. That is cool, reporting and winning the race - AWESOME.

I can understand you being a bit skittish about this, after what happened at The Northern Class Nationals.
So, I can stop looking for 389 blocks or 400's with no wear, for now?

I wanted to take a moment and give props to the staff/crew/track for all of the efforts this weekend. With the forecast we were given, most places would've pulled the plug before we even got started. The weather turned out better than the weather entertainment people prognosticated (shocking), and the rain that we did encounter was dealt with swiftly and proactively, with not one, but two jet dryers. Every single 60' in the Super Stocker was 1.40 on new M/T's, and every single 60' in the Stocker was 1.51 on year-old M/T radials. Outstanding job, y'all!

That would be Warren Evans from Coles County Dragway. Very nice and very smart gentleman. Got a chance to talk with him quite a bit toward the end of the day on Sunday. Nice operation, and he's constantly looking at ways to improve and add to the broadcast. Very impressive, particularly for a 1-man operation!
