How about, just toss out the Thursday runs and see you for class Friday morning for the DQ guy???
BTW, if you happen to see Jim Zane walking around today, wish him a happy 70th birthday!!! |
Re: Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-English
I think the NHRA should have a "New Guy" service. I know that it was very confusing for me at my first National. But, I am also the guy that forgets to stop at the scales sometimes......

Good morning gang - Its day two with plenty of excitement in store for this morning .Although its overcast the conditions are pretty much the same as yesterday except the barometer is a tad lower so yes, fast conditions are going to be with us during Stock class eliminations for sure .
Seems we have two types of folks watching the events - those who like 'new' cars / Shootout cars and those who like vintage iron .It really doesn't matter which you like as both sides will have plenty to watch and enjoy . Track dryers are doing their magic as I type to ensure a great racing surface as it was yesterday .We are to start in about an hour and there are already lines to get in .The slight rain / mist we had around 6am didn't seem to slow things up one bit .All that and later today the Sun is scheduled to reappear and warm things up. Back after the last Stock quaifier ............. |

Holy cow Batman - from out of nowhere a huge downpour hit and this will set us back hours from the start .We didn't see this coming ............And since I took these pics the storm has picked up more steam .......not good - not good at all ! ! !

Re: Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-English
Every time I think to give NHRA Nationals a chance, I read BS stories like this. What difference does it make if you did credentials before the end of Qualifying. I am sure I will read lame excuses why they screwed the racer "That is the rules". That's why I will stick with Divisionals until they poke the Bear...
Enjoy! |
Re: Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-English
I have a question, I am new this year also. I sent in my notorized signature paper to them, is there something else you need to do besides that for a national event? I thought you had to do that before you could even enter a national event. I have gotten 3 grade points this year so far, don't want to spin this thread off but it brings up something new since it happened there. Thanks!

The rains have stopped and several track dryers are now running - my best guess is we're an hour or so from starting to send cars down the track .
Meanwhile there are some show cars in my area that I took a few pics of ........And we all know Kenny won't let me just sit around - he insists I earn my parking spot ! ! Enjoy the photos ................ |

Re: Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-English
I went to Atlanta, my first National Event in several years. The packet that I received when I arrived at the gate gave explicit instructions. In very large capital letters, it explained that you must register and sign the waiver before you make a run or you will be DQ'd from the event. Apparently they're not kidding.

Factory Stock final - Bo Butner vs Mike Skinner in identical Mustangs and Skinner takes the trophy with a fine 8.48 when Butner spins 'em bigtime .This was a great finish for Sportsman racing in front of the big crowd .
Just for the record -I've been coming to the Summers for forty some odd years and never did I ever dream I'd see Stockers going 8.30s on a nine inch tire .What a show ............. |

The internet has been slow to upload today, but here are some shots of the staging for class. They are still running pros as I type.
Maybe some of you can help me. The guy standing next to the red Camaro says he knows me, but I haven't a clue who he is. He said he use to race a Gremlin. I have some more videos and will post later tonight when the internet gets better. |

Re: Live from the NHRA Summernationals @Raceway Park-English
The notorized form you signed and sent to Glendora is an authorization to consent of electronic signature. I had to do one also to set up my account for national event entry. Its a mandatory step now before you can even set up an account.

Talk about a rude greeting - at around six this morning Mother Nature decided that we needed to be wet and let go of a hard downpour. We certainly didn't see that coming but the good news is that a few minutes ago the Sun popped out and we're on our way to drying .
Now about racing - yesterday was terrific with good races all day and today should be more .I must admit being in a car racing would have been more fun than behind a lens but sometimes you just have to make the best of a bad situation .Racers yesterday reached very deep to bring out their best performances and made for a super show to watch . In just a few hours Stock and SuperStock will be out for round one .The weather today isn't the mineshaft conditions we've had the last few days-68 degrees with 69% humidity and .49 VP with the barometer at 29.78 and a final DA of 1500 feet.. How about the mad Hawaiian getting some new duds .He was in rare form after loosing a close one in the class final . And since Kenny didn't like having me for a neighbor he has been kind enough to pick out next years spot for me and I'm not thrilled with the location pictured below .He blames me for everything ....hmmmmm Later.......... |

S/S round one is completed and was pretty much the normal fare - with one exception -- I'm now left with hope that there is still plenty of time left for me thanks to one of my heros -seventy-eight year old Sam Biondo who is driving his son Peters' Hatari Firebird this weekend comes out swinging with an .017 light and moves on to round two.Way to go my friend ...............

Special thanks to John Gray, Bruce Noland and Sterling Simmons (now that's a brain trust right there!) who helped me try to get my car ready for the second round (a couple of cylinders went cold). Unfortunately, their efforts were to no avail but were much appreciated.

Good morning everyone, I's sure most of you know there are a only two rounds left in Stock and Super Stock. We had a round robin session yesterday evening. Here are some random photos as the evening progressed.
Not only does Jack do the live reports, he cooks also. I guess you can say he is a "Jack" of all trades. |
