Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Who or how did a 55 chevy 150 get 5HP??????? I do not recall any of these cars running much this year, the ones running are not 150 models. Then the Cadillac 350 goes from 200 to 203 hp??? It is 1hp less than a 1-4bbl 265!!!??? Who is driving this ship???

Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Robert, Larry Schmidt SS/PA 1.10 under at Topeka national event. I don`t think 150 means much, because Larry races a 1955 belair Tom

Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
[QUOTE=Robert Simpson;476642]Tom, there is a difference between 150 and Belairs. The chrome and weight break makes a huge difference. Also, on the NHRA web site they have two different hp's for 55 150's no difference between stick and auto. Am I wrong? I thought the instant trigger was 1.15 not 1.10? Is this a 2.5% hit?
Instant trigger is -1.20 which results in 3.25% hit. If trigger runs (need atleast 2) are -1.000-1.099 but average is above -.85 combo gets 1.25%. If trigger is -1.10-1.199 a 2.25% hit is the result. |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Robert, stick 197 hp. auto. 205, Larry ran more than 1 second under 5 or 6 times and hit the trigger, average was more than .85 under, 2.25 hit 5 hp. Tom

Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
This appears what happens when no slow cars run to counter a fast ones average, sure would like to know how they can add 5hp to a p/g and subtract 3 from a stick.
ss/oa min.#3450 @205 ss/o min.#3322 @197 Sure wish i was wrong. jim ss/oa |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
The new rating has been applied to all 1955 180hp 265 automatics, not just the 150 body. The engine rating was changed to 197 in SS stick last year on 7/8/2014, but the auto rating remained at 200 until this new hit.

old nhra hp. 203? |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
If you look at the first set of HP adjustments the 265 stick combo that was at 197 was given 5 HP by mistake. The auto was the one that was supposed to have gotten 5. All they did was to readjust it back to its original 197 and then gave the auto the 5 HP.

Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Exactly right Bob.
Jim no averages were looked at here. One auto car went real fast and triggered the AHFS. No effect on stick cars. Allan |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Not just one car, yes Schmidt went fast but also Rene Garza at Norwalk (.943 under)
i know there was some confusion on weights entered at since the mumbo jumbo that is AHFS is hard to keep track of, EVEN with TECH. |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Confusion on weights is right. They made a mistake as the stick was 197 but even with my poor math skills how do they get 202 on the update page.
With my math a 55 post will be a natural n/a now so will not be able to run in p/a anymore. jim ss/oa |
Re: New NHRA Horsepower Hits!
Do the research, Nitro Joe showed 197 the last time I looked.
You'd think tech would catch that Maybe a case could be made that those runs shouldn't trigger AHFS or maybe just as confusing to them |
