Second round of qualifying at a National event, a couple of years ago I forgot to put my fire pants on.....too late to do anything about it when I realized it.. I pulled my jacket down as far as I could to hide the fact. During the run, I gave it up at 1,000 ft so my time would not be better...thus a "wave thru" the scales and fuel check. Whew...I will sleep better tonight getting that off my chest...(and not worrying about a tattle tale) The truth be known, I would not try to guess how frequently drivers forget the neck support, gloves, net, etc. S-it happens.

I surely agree everyone, especially Mickey should be wearing above and beyond what is required. I also believe that it is highly possible for someone to forget to put their jacket on in the heat of moment trying to get ready for a run at a national event. I find it hard to believe that NHRA staff would let it go if it had been detected, so I for one would like to know the whole situation to decide for myself.

So here is what happened. I spot my buddy I the burnout box, I look over to the other car and see he just has a Tshirts an jeans on, I told myself hmmm ok whatever. They race do there deal and I realized it's kinda messed up, I was at the scale and asked him are you exempt from a fire suit , he said i don't need to wear one in I / SA , as this is happening Danny Gracia is scalling him, bottom line was he didn't forget to wear it he just said he didn't want to or have to, my whole point to this was the safety rules , it was just an odd situation I thought even with NHRA officials witnessing it. That's the deal , it's done , over with

This could be more fun to watch than full contact golf.

It wasn't your job to confront the other driver, it was either NHRA or your friend to do that. I know some guys who would give you a knuckle sandwich for getting in their business like that.

Interesting; the issue is not personal business.
Its about a rule violation and safety and Jim was competing as a racer.

So Ed, under your premise, if I see someone with a Nitrous bottle in a Stocker, although I am a competitor too, I shall remain quiet and not inform NHRA?

I'll assume he is new to stock and at least you waited until after the run, I'll never forgive the A-Hole that got in middle of my first race in stock against you.

I'd be willing to bet that the next time the I/SA racer is at a NHRA race.....he will have all his safety gear on. Each and every time I go thru tech they always check my pants and jacket.M.J.

HR9121 08-11-2015 09:53 PM

Re: Random question stock eliminator

Like M.J. said, I went to tech one day and left my pants in the trailer and had to go back to get them even though it was the same tech person from the previous 2 races. I cannot imagine how this person has been getting through tech and going down the track.

I bet my friend Woodrow Josey was sure glad he had all his safety equipment on a few years back.
I am sure he would vote YES!

SS GT Mustang, refer to post number 3..... It was not Mark Faul. M.J.

Oh another internet tough guy. I never said I would go that far just that there's others that would. It's fine that you were looking out for your friend but you would have been better off letting him handle it after their race. And you certainly would have been better off letting it go at that. Now posting it here you have to have known it would create a storm with arguments on both sides.

Carry on

Agree.
Jim is a class act and straight shooter.
Also very passionate for this sport.
He has a filter for B.S. and doesn't drink Kool-Aid.
If Jim brings up any subject, there is a good reason for it.

If it was Steve I would have to say he probably didn't know any better and made a honest mistake, I was not there so my opinion is not worth much here though.lol

Jim, I for one am glad that you brought this to our attention. If the I/SA racer is a newbie it could have been an honest mistake. When it comes to safety and safety items, this becomes all our business. M.J.

Week before last, I was at a big bracket race at Woodburn. A low 9 second super gas type 27 roadster broke on the starting line, the driver got out of the car in jeans, no firepants, no gloves, no neck collar. Plenty of track personnel around and no one made any comment, go figure...

Re: Random question stock eliminator

Please put this one to rest guys.....much appreciated.
Go on Yellow Bullet instead. As one of the two Brian's that helped Steve to get his old stocker out of mothballs and come out and have fun at the nationals after almost a decade hiatus, he had his hands full getting back into the game with a stocker that barely ran the index (hadn't run it since the .3 change!). Steve didn't know the pants requirements since it had been so long since he ran stock (Brian S gave him a spare pair) and Steve plain forgot to put on his jacket that run since he only ran sportsman this year with that car and a jacket is not required for that class.

The only drama present is self induced, Move on please....... and enjoy the racing win or lose.
