Re: Where did the FWD stockers go?

The Achieva is a 92 and the Calais is a 91. I just switch the SOHC head for the Quad 4 head in the Achieva and I can run a diff. class. The Calais runs SS/GS.

No. Bill Shurla sold that car to somebody in NJ,Pa.? Billy would know.
I never heard of it being raced again.

There is a Daytona stocker sitting in a field in Texas. It was a former record holder and won class many times. Shame it is rotting away.

I can only speak for my car, but my Turbo 125 had an 8" A-1 Torque convertor built for it back in '96, and it's still working great, and as for the tranny, the last time it was touched was y2k, so were talking over 16yrs. Now granted I haven't done as much racing during many of those years, as I'd like, but last year I partook in my first full countable NHRA season of 3 nats, and 5 divs., so I feel very good about the GM 125's.

Could this be Jeff Lee's former record holder? First FWD car in the 13's.
Is it white, by any chance?

A question for the informed!!!!! My late father in law left us a Cadillac El Dorado, fwd, with all the features.think it was 32 v. I think it was a 98...it was the cool looking one. Anyway, the thing was fast but I was afraid I would break something before getting it sold.
My question is: do these cars FIT in NHRA? One is for sale down the road.

Oops, I now see that it is not in the book...oh well

Wasn't there a guy named Mike Senna who raced a fwd Cadillac in Stock Eliminator at one time?

No it was a blue Daytona raced by Floyd Colley. I think he had the record for a short time. Car last ran in Dallas several years ago before he passed away.

Mike was the one who got me involved in the Cadillac deal. We were partners with them and Hydramatic for 18 years. Between Me, Mike and Yac, there were 14 Cadillac race cars. Mike formed YANK Converters as a result of building them for the race cars and finally for GM specially vehicle group. I had 18 class wins and 16 national Records with the Cimarron. It was fun! Jim

This car was stolen, crashed and buried at a race track up north while getting a fresh drive train installed. It was discovered years later when some track expansion was being done. It was a weird deal! Jim

Yeah, Yeah, I know, dug up an old one.
I didn't buy anyones old car, sort of. My ex gave it back to me. With lots of input from Yac, I have a 96 Escort. Built not bought. Its rough looking , getting body parts off car-part.com looking for color match so I dont have to repaint. But, with a header and some really short slicks, at weight for E/FS , have gotten it .27 under already. So, there is one up here in the NW.

Dave, your Escort is cool. I remember seeing it at Yakima a few weeks ago. It may be color challenged but it went some rounds, if I recall.

Thanks Ron. I lost to Norm in the Vette 1st round, but if I hadn't missed 3rd gear I could have made it real close. It's wild glancing back in the mirror and see the Vette hike the front Way up chasing me down. :D

That would be Dennis Kloet from Wi. Z/SA ..I believe he worked for Fel-Pro.

Most consistent car I ever drove. I don't think we changed the dial in over three days of eliminator racing.

It seems now there are not a lot of FWD cars left. Some of the FWD cars I saw entered at Indy since 1998 were: Rivera's, Aries wagons, Sundance's, Delta's, Charger's, Escort's, Citation's, Cavalier's. Sunbird's, PT Cruisers, Neon's, and Omni's. I remember my first trip to Indy 15 or so years ago I saw a Dodge Omni driving to the track with decals and NHRA number on the window and a tag on the rear. The coolest has to be Art's mini van. Does anyone have any info or stories about these cars? I sure hope they are still around and didn't get crushed and turned into beer cans.

There's still a couple sitting up here on the hill.

If anyone is thinking about trying this, I want to show you what a 7 second and 50 mph difference looks like . Add a couple more seconds to that, in today's NHRA.

I assume that is John Cseh's A/S and not Tom Cross and that was the final round?

You are definitely the man winning a stock eliminator title with a FWD car, of that there is no doubt.

Another car comes to mind that stands out from that era........Jeff Lee`s 87 Dodge Daytona set the A/FS record in 1994......13.26 @99.6 This was pre-laptop days and Jeff wasted 3 heads and several pistons until he figured out how hard he could flog on it ....Yes.. The same Jeff Lee who is about to bring his SS/H AMX back out.....

Re: Where did the FWD stockers go?

Dennis Kloet's car was a Renault. Dennis worked at AMC/Renault, not Fel-Pro. Dennis, Sheldon Gecker, and Joe Covert had Fel-Pro sponsorship back then. Dennis also raced a front drive Buick after the Renault.
