Well if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all! How many times have you heard that one? Definitely the case for me today, I managed to start heading that way this evening but got about 30 miles from home and wouldn't you know it my motorhome started acting up so I had to turn around and limp home.
Ok most might call it quits right here but not me I'm way too stupid for that. I now have the trailer hooked to my truck and will head out in the morning. See you then, maybe.....

Re: "Live" from Galot Division 2 Divisional 2016

Having raced there many times 20 years ago, it is hard to believe how nice the pictures look. Completely different track. I hope to stop and see it next time I go see the inlaws.

Getting the NHRA racers to go 1/8th mile racing will take some work. Lot of work... Comment that the turnout is about normal for an IHRA race looks a little off to me. Div. 9 IHRA race pulls lot more cars than what is showing there so far... unless I have really mis-read the sheets lately.
Good luck to all, be safe, have fun.

Galot has everything in place to be a bucket list venue in the not to distant future. It was hot yesterday,90 plus, but the track hooked for me.

Well it is another beautiful day here in North Carolina! We all get one run today then start running eliminations! A few more cars have come in overnight so they are getting teched and ready to go. I believe the plan is to run the race all today because of the bad weather coming tomorrow afternoon.

More later.

Good morning, good call to run the race today with worse weather coming in. Larry, the Red Apple Shine @ Gregory Vineyards, is that cider or 80-100 proof sipping medicine?

Good luck today

1/8 mile points meet? Who wants to run 1/8 mile? I'm not interested in 1/8 mile racing. I hope the facility is a big success in spite of that.
Right. I forgot that S/SS racers like to race 1000'...

Quote:

All other NHRA races are 1/4 mile.
Not the National Open at Ohio Valley.

I would not have expected a very big turn out for that event. It's an Un tested venue.
Untested??? Before the track was even up and running, when they first paved it and set up the timing system, the *very first pass* down the track was around a 3.79, with a 0.9xx 60'! They've been open for a few months now, and have drawn over 300 cars for a local points race.

Quote:

You can't expect racers to travel long distances for the meager purse that is posted.
NHRA sets the purse. People travel all over chasing the same poor payouts (and sometimes don't even get paid, re: Zmax).

Quote:

The owner/promoter will have to put on several more of these type events and entice the racers with bigger pay outs.
Why on earth would the owner want to have any more of these events? How many losses do people expect them to take? I know what it cost us when we believed the racers who said, "We'll be there next time!" for the Class Nationals. (I appreciate the h*ll out of everyone who actually DID support us!)

I swear, I have never in my life seen so many excuses from people to NOT race than from Nat'l/Div'l event racers. Yes, they're individually certainly all valid excuses. Just don't assume that tracks/promoters are going to keep throwing good money after bad.

Really ?Did you ever think us people that race nationals and divisional a race cause we love to race? Michael let's be real about your class nationals. You stopped doing it because you couldn't make enough $$$. To satisfy your needs. Ya nhra sucks at times but you no before you buy in what you're there for TOO. WIN. Keep promoting your races cause that's the answer to all our problems

No. If you loved to race, then you would go race. The subject was the car count at this weekend's LODRS. The Class Nationals comment was a sidebar.

If by "enough" you mean "any", then you're right. You don't have a clue. The first year was barely break even. We only tried it again because so many people said they would be there next time. The second year, we lost a massive amount of money. We'll never try it again. That is precisely the point I was making -- people didn't support GALOT this year, and then everyone is going to act all shocked when it's not on the schedule next year.

Well I laid an egg 2cd round so Mr Larry advanced without to much of fight from me, but hey who wants to fight a 6'8" man? Maybe after I cool down a little I will try to get a few pictures and do a little reporting to earn my check.

Getting ready for 3rd round of stock, last round Mickey Whaley broke a transmission and they were trying to swap it don't know if they will make it time he has Billy Place. Them there will be a heads up this round between Mr Larry and Eddie Longhany.

HR9121 06-04-2016 03:29 PM

Re: "Live" from Galot Division 2 Divisional 2016

3rd round winners in stock.
Hill
Cody Phillips
Plage
Stott
Jeff Longhany

Mr Larry won heads up fairly convincingly and Mickey did make the call on the short turnaround.

I've done some flyers for them, but I didn't design the GALOT logo. They actually have it as a registered trademark now. It's an acronym for "Get A Load Of This". Mr. Earl Wells is the owner. He also owns a bunch of Pro Mods and tractor pulling tractors.

Semis in stock will be Plage, Phillips and Jeff Longhany. Not sure who has the bye.
SS will be Kevin Riner and Ronnie Courtney.

Plage goes 73rd and it's Cody Phillips and Jeff Longhany in the finals of stock.

Re: "Live" from Galot Division 2 Divisional 2016

Jeff Longhany is the stock winner here today and Kevin Riner wins SS. Sorry I didn't take any pictures this weekend, with the low car count the turnaround was really fast and it was just too damn hot! Until next time....

Well we have finally cooled off and are all packed up for the 750 mile trip home. We plan to leave first thing in the morning rather than getting to the mountains in the dark tonight! It has been a great weekend! Got to the 4th round and won a heads up race along the way! This facility is fantastic along with all the people who work here that we had any dealings with. It has been great to be able to be hooked up to electric since it has been in the 90s the past 2 days. The AC has been running non-stop. The race was well run and Larry hooked every time even in the hot muggy weather!

Hopefully there will be another divisional here next year and more people decide to participate! Look at it this way--you only use half the racing gas!!

Got to meet Larry and Patsy yesterday and Rusty Davenport this morning. Nice seeing you guys . I'm liking this NHRA racing. After thrashing all week to make this race we got there late yesterday. We broke a Rocker on the first hit this morning and didnt have a spare. Kinda pi$$ed at myself for not having a $4 dollar spare rocker.

My take on this event:

1) A lot of dyed in the Wool NHRA racers will not race 1/8th mile. They are really missing out especially at this facility.

2) It's in the middle of Div 2 and Div 1. This race needs support from the north and far south to survive.

3) The local TD and TS racers will not buy the required safety items to compete when they can go to the local tracks and race with shorts and flip flops

4) The Local IHRA S and SS racers are predominately Crate motors, GT stockers, and Production SS cars. No classes in NHRA for them

5) The reast are scared to death of NHRA tech. For the Record the NHRA Staff has been nothing but Awesome to me.

6) The Forcast didnt help either

I hope they do it again next year nice having another event close by

Chip, all excellent points couldn't have said any better myself. I expected the stock and SS numbers to be a little low just for the reason you said above. Take the Farmington race for example, 28 stockers 15 of which were IHRA only cars. What surprised me the most was Super Comp and Gas, I thought there would be a large crowd simply because they really don't have to do anything to crossover. I certainly hope Mr Wells will give it another shot next year, maybe it will do better. I was particularly impressed by the Losers lounge, don't think I've ever seen a small restaurant where you can eat and watch the race like that. The good was good too!

So Sad how these Susposed racers feel about 1/8 mile racing. If they would go and try it and get good at it they would be much better 1/4 mile racers. Oh well it's their loss!

All good points. Now, how many of those things are going to change for next year? The forecast. What else? Wishing and hoping isn't going to make people support the event.

One thing I did want to mention was I recently purchased the Sparco Pro Light 5 suit from Biondo Racing Products and couldn't believe how comfortable I was even when it hit 96 degrees Saturday. They are completely worth the money and if I'm not mistaken still on sale at a very good price. Thanks to Sparco for a great product and to Sal and Peter for a good price, I think I might do a little more summer racing now that I have these.
