That means no 2013 Dodge Challenger 392 and no 2015 Camaro 376, both cars that run regular Stock. I'll bet that gets changed.

Buddy, about time you come back from the "dark" side. Ya know I am retiring this spring we could make this a really big deal. I did not get to race Top Stock at the Class Nationals. This would be a HOOT!

So, I'm just wondering .... is this going to be Top Stock 2018, allowing all NHRA legal AA through C stock eliminator cars? ...Or is it some kind of Nostalgia Top Stock for cars that are at least 10 years old ?

It could be a blast DIrk , my plan this year was to run a lot of the heartland races this year too ! I wonder if Mr Diekema and crew would consider having top stock at a few of the heartland races for the midwest crowd ? Just a thought ? Maybe run it on a sat night as a seperate deal like an ad on if anyone wanted to get in ? Could be really neat!

Its been quite a while since I read this site. Glad to see the excitement for a true RACE between two cars Heads Up. Will wait to see how the rules settle. Good Luck.
The Top SS and Top Stk we ran in Div 3 was enjoyed by all and essentially hidden by at the tracks by only running after the crowd left for the night. Really fun event.

I had a blast when you ran this ! I just wish I could have done it more but it sadly went away :( I really hope we can get it going again !

Jim Are you talking about the comp cars that they let you run in stock. BP

Re: Top Stock is back

Hi Barry !! ..Yes, We're talking about the same cars! Yep, they're the "new" ones!!! The Factory Built Super Stock/Comp cars that have the super soft HP rated "showroom" engine combos that were built in the true spirit of stock and have since been approved for Traditional Stock Eliminator...Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your side of the fence, they're here to stay. More being built as we speak.- (We're not talking about the FS cars that were correctly put into their own classes.) - Top Stock would be a great venue for the "new" stockers to showcase their true HP. And with the sponsor having some skin in the game, I think it's pretty easy to see the "new" direction of Top Stock.

Re: Top Stock is back

Let me get this straight: 8.25# per NHRA factored plus 170# for driver, .5 Pro Tree, passenger seat removal, Pro Ladder, sticks and auto combined, NHRA Stock rules, higher qualified car has lane choice first round, rest of eliminations quicker car has lane choice. Fuel and scales.

I would like to see winner have carburetor looked at, lift checked at valve, and P&G. On lift at the valve run adjuster down to zero lash and take reading, that way the LS1 does not have to pull the head. This check should take 30 to 45 minutes, I hope

crowd of racers who could have appreciated seeing it and the families who were waiting. ( I understand the comment) In Stanton Michigan there was a good crowd.

Jim I love the new cars. Wish I had the money to run one competitively. As you know the cost of the car is just the beginning. Maybe it would be cool to have the 2008 and newer cars run off against each other and 2008 and older run each other. The winner of each age group run each other in the final. BP

Re: Top Stock is back

Larry, Most of the cars that ran when we had it in D1 years ago were cars that either had at one time set records, been to Iny and threw tear down or the class of racers that I would trust. It was some of the best times that I have had racing. I'm putting together a 1970 Camaro big block and hope I have it finished for the first top stock race. You should come on down. BP

Larry,
Only the heavy cars should get the seat removal, a car that must add weight should not be allowed seat removal. That was one of the bad rules in IHRA T/Stk.

Larry Hill 12-19-2017 02:09 PM

Re: Top Stock is back

How about this rule for Top Stock: drivers seat has to have at least 300# in it, including driver. Lighter drivers would have to have weight under the seat to make driver weight of 300#. That way I don,t have to add any weight or upset the balance of my car. Bottom line is same rules for all. My car, like most will run A,B, or C, your rule would only affect AA cars. It's about having Fun. My money would be on the street '15 COPO's @ 365hp or the 345hp "Vetts

Re: Top Stock is back

Mr Larry your rule would eliminate people like Allison Smyth, there's no way she could safely add 200 pounds of ballast under her seat! Merry Christmas

I would like to try this but at 8.25 lb /445 hp my car will be a bit heavy. 3841 lbs. aaaa I don't think so....

Why restrict it to AA-C cars? It would be fun to find a jockey sized driver and see how much weight I could get out of the car. From what I’ve heard, Brad Van Lant ran his D car in top stock several years back.

Go ahead! I don't think you would be turned away! The more money in the pot just makes for better payout. I think you would be competitive if you could get to minimum weight.

Brad ran his car in Top Stock at the last race in KC. We did a time trial together and he got to the line first. His car was bad fast!

Not a bad idea at all!

I think 9.70s in good air would be possible these days for sure. There were a few A/B cars at indy that would have been in the 9.90s at 8.25 lb/hp, not to mention Jason Line in C - it would be fun to see his car in top stock!

Out of all of the cars at this past Indy Nats, IMHO Jason's was the most impressive..a bad fast Buick.

Indeed it is; but think he (or any of the D cars) can shed enough weight to get close to 8.25 lb/hp? Know the Hill, Hatch, Bennett cars are bad fast but sure sounds like a tall order.

I agree-as a former owner and racer of Buick GS models, getting a 70 GS down to 2850 within stock rules isn't likely

Are the official dates May 4-6 2018 Atco
And Sept 28-30 2018 Maple Grove ?

Re: Top Stock is back

We can get a couple hundred out of our D/SA Demons and save another 125 LBs by recruiting a 100 Lb. driver to replace our 200 plus b*tts!
We would need the 2850 rule removed. Hope this happens sometime on the West Coast.
