Sure it will get posted here when it's available...Rich is answering questions on the D2 Facebook page though. No Pure Stock but definitely the 'homeless' crate motor cars are welcome. You know D2 tried a November Open and even though SGMP was fast (Westcott, Johnsons and a few others set records) they just didn't get the car counts and the tracks still have to make $. They also tried a Open in Gainesville (to perhaps draw some Orlando PRI attendees) and that fared even worse. Think Duzac set yet another record so it was plenty fast but the usual reason for not attending was "stuff is tired after all year", "too close to Thanksgiving", etc. Folks who don't want to compete because of the 1/8th mile or whatever certainly don't have to and the series doesn't detract from D2's regular divisional series. Race and let race....the car counts will determine how things play out and I for one applaud D2 for trying to give a very large contingent of racers in the Southeast a chance to run in a competitive series.

Stephen Johnson, We used race at Montgomery at the Turkey Trot... Usually pretty good car counts. A lot of records (30) set there. Qualifying usually looked like a Who's Who of Class racers. What happened? setting records is not important any more. The year (2004) I was # 1 qualifier it was a Dog Fight to be #1. Remember that Crab discussion Mike Crutchfield?
Check out the car count in SS

Double grading points? Hell 1/4 Mile races should be double then. Heck I trace right past the 1/8th to get to the 1/4 that's double right?

the reason I would guess is that the tracks like to make money. NHRA charges to much to hold one. It is easier and more profitably for the track to run brackets, grudge racing or no prep races. Like most things in life it comes down to the money.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series

Novassdude.. You hit the nail on the head. Follow the money.
As usual the business model of NHRA is about making the most money for NHRA. When there is a demand for the events It seems like they would be satisfied charging less and having more events. I have a feeling the reason we are seeing smaller quotas at National Events and higher grade point requirements is to force participation at Divisional events. They have the price of a Divisional so high car count becomes the issue for track owners. A big car count is required to crack the nut.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series

Rich posted this on Facebook...

For the many of you asking questions about the new NHRA Southeast Open Championship Series, thank-you for your questions. The schedule is coming out soon. But just as a head up, with so many Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in the first portion of the season, February through May, the first 1/8th Mile Points event will be in June. So we’ve got time to get you ready, build up a contingency program, etc. We’ll keep feeding more and more info out there as we have time to get it posted. (Obviously we have to focus on the first Lucas race of the season, Orlando, right around the corner.)

Still a good move to fill a void left by IHRA's decision.

Is this an independently operated series, or is it officially backed by NHRA? I'm wondering because IHRA tracks like Piedmont & Mooresville were mentioned in the first post.

From everything I have read, Piedmont and Mooresville are now officially NHRA tracks.

Mooresville announced it on Facebook on Jan.11th. Piedmont still shows IHRA on their site. Their banquet is in Feb 17th where I would expect the announcement by then if not earlier.

Anytime IHRA gets a new or switched track in their fold they make sure you know about it. I haven't seen anything from NHRA or the major drag racing sites yet.

More than likely the schedule for this series will be announced after these tracks have made it official.

Interesting that the first race will be at Music City, personally like the Hill; ran their bracket program a few times. Just thought they'd schedule the first one more in the old IHRA class racer wheel house of the Carolinas but hope they draw a ton of cars and do well with this new program.

Almost no car count means nothing? Put up money for, set up qualifying, etc, for an Eliminator with maybe ten (probably fewer) cars? I tried to support IHRA around here a few years ago, never saw ten of those things. Heck, I saw fewer than ten Super Stock cars entered at some races.

Maybe its because there is only a half dozen of them in the whole country. Maybe they didn't have to do anything at all and let all the whiners keep whining. As usual, its the keyboard jockeys that want to stir the pot and do all the bitching!

You do not speak for me or what ever god you picked.

I did not slam NHRA and never ever had anything bad to say about them.
That is your manifestation to justify your ugly behavior.

We are just asking an opportunity to play and be with our friends.
What is wrong with that ? You afraid of us? Sounds like it !!

Gbur would have made it 4 Pure Stockers...
Know there is a B/PS 1969 Impala, H/PS Chevelle & 57 Chevy and a few other cars in B, D, E, G that have been hibernating.

Canada NHRA Opens runs PS, GT and CM all the time.
What is wrong doing it in the South ?

Just maybe your comprehensions of pure stock has nothing to do with what Jr Stock was in the glory days before all the add ons

That is your manifestation to justify your ugly behavior.

We are just asking an opportunity to play and be with our friends.

Oh, I forgot one thing, You picked the wrong guy to get into a pissing contest with....As Dwayne Johnson would say...”It doesn’t matter what you think”....While we are playing ball, you are on the outside looking in.....

Well that would be you ! .......

......................................It is Matter of perspective !

I go where I am wanted.
If NHRA wants my business I will be right there.
Will even pony up to be a Contingency Sponsor, again !!

Live is too damn short to be dealing with arrogant unrealistic behavior of others.
If I sold all my drag racing equipment today.
I have a ton of other activities and fun things to do.
Soon a grandfather, son getting married, daughter graduating from college, contemplating retirement.

I Ref Soccer, have an aggressive training schedule, Ref 30 games a season.
Selected as MWSRA Soccer Referee of the Year for 2017.

Yet if and when I move on will never forget the fond memories of those I raced and huddled with or the friends that have passed on.

I do not have regrets !!

There is no downside to any additional races being added. I think we should commend any action from an NHRA leader that steps outside the box. That is rare indeed. I agree, there can always be more better etc etc, but let’s not forget that more racers can race in the D2 area because of this move. The over paid marketing and accounting Glendora brass in NHRA are mostly non racing unknowing folks these days. When their local leadership tries to extend any solution to a problem that gives us choices, we should be careful not to pick it all apart.

umm... there are five tracks that don't have a date set (or mentioned) in the article and I don't see anything listed on the D2 site. I don't think that constitutes a finalized schedule. If it is finalized somewhere then D2 needs to be promoting it.
