Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Sorry folks for the lack of photos, having a few issue with the race car. The car has spoiled me, making it easy to do photos and video for many years. This week the little gremlins have taken over. I will try to get Super Stock for first round.

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
So what I find a bit frustrating right now, is that the schedule right off the bat was compressed/advanced based on the notion that Sunday was a rain date.
Start on Wednesday, and then right into class also on Wednesday afternoon after 1 hit. Ok, I get it, This leaves Sunday as the rain day. So now here we are on Friday, not a drop of rain yet, and yes, tomorrow looks like rain, however Sunday looks fabulous. But sorry, forget about the original plan for Sunday rain date, we are heck bent to get it all done today. It’s almost 22:00 and none of the traditional classes have even had e2 yet. And trust me, I’m not an nhra basher at all. But this really doesn’t feel right. And I have no dog in this fight because I’m out already. This was a $450 race for all of us…..and many folks drove massive amount of miles to attend. Kp |
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Right after losing a second time in two days by spinning hard … probably not the best time to vent. But…
If this DD continues to focus mostly on the schedule instead of having a starter that understands how to keep up the very thing we are there to drive our neat cars down… we are in trouble. Both events so far have had a “schedule first” feel instead of a quality product for the customer. #bringbackredman |
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Well we are on our way home after our spin fest in round one yesterday! We had a great time but hate to get beat that way! It should have been a great race but we will never know! Even Bohannon spun that round and he said that Corvette never spins!! They got round 2 in of both classes last night it I didn’t stay up to watch! Way past my bedtime!

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
I blew the tires off also the first rd at home now. to me, the track was very inconsistent
|
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Let me say this. In round one Steve and I have similar cars his COPO and my Drag Pack. Power, tires, wheel base are very similar. The COPO goes A to B and mine goes up in smoke at the bald spots. Oh yes Steve’s lane had bald spots also, it was a fair race. It’s more than obvious that the COPO is more sorted than the Drag Pack. Getting Dumbo sorted out is my problem that I have to solve.
The Stock winner in a heads up final on Thursday blows the tire off Friday in the same Corvette in E1 and loses. All in all many racers are disappointed in the quality of track prep. |
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
It was a problem in all classes my 60’ was all over the place, it seems this has become the norm in NHRA events this season, we are paying more money for less services

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
NHRA does not show the stock or SS finals.... did they finish, or did they get hit with weather?

Are the results that far behind, or have they still not yet run the Stock or Super Stock finals?

I haven't race at nite for a long time. The tree at National Trails sure looked different, is it special lighting ?

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Hey guys, not sure I was going to post this video, but what the heck. I have had good luck racing Tony in his COPO in class the last few years, and new things would swing his way. Anyway enjoy my defeat. Watch the complete video for 2 different looks.
From reading the posts I can see many had issues with traction. I was lucky enough that I had no issues, but having said that... I didn't go any rounds so it could have been an issue. I will say the starting line did not look good when I rolled out of the water, I had no confidences that I would hook. https://youtu.be/kqpnG0e2uis |
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Thanks... I'm just along for the ride on my daughters YT channel. The video has been well received and has a good amount of views. I think class racing is so special and deserves to be shared with those who may not understand it or been exposed to it.
Stockers are way cool.... (super stock is ultra-super cool) Quote:

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Cool videos, Ken. Thanks. It's always fun racing you. And, by the way, I BLEW the tires off in the first round of the divisional. Sucks because I was .006 on the tree. Oh well
|
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Funny, same thing happened to me in Super Street. Blew the tires off 1st round, got lucky, opponent red lighted. 2nd round, blew tires off again, was .006 on the tree. Frustrating that track prep at an NHRA divisional was so terrible, saw lots off cars spinning and no reaction from starting line crew.

Hey guys, I did a video rolling home from the Jeg Sportnationals. I deal with a few muppets on the road, but for the most part it was a good trip. I talk about, "is it worth it"... Its my take, and would love to hear yours.

Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Ken, you are so right that we should be grateful we get to do this. The best thing about racing, "Winning". The second best thing, "Losing". Means we got be there, and hopefully gave it all we had. I don't mean we should like losing, far from it. But its better than the third best thing, "Not there".
And we know what the fourth thing is. J.R. |
Re: "Live" from Columbus Jegs Speedweek 2023
Amen Ken, the opportunity we have to pursue our passion for racing is a vanishing one and I for one will continue to do it for as long as possible. While I don’t have the opportunities or racing budget to compete with most when I turn on the second light I have every expectation that a win light will soon follow. If it doesn’t it’s on to the next opportunity to compete, and that’s all anyone can ask for. Most of us can “remember when” competing was far easier. We were younger, the tracks were more plentiful, the sanctioning bodies cared about sportsman racers, an old pickup and open trailer seemed perfectly adequate, etc. But most of all we were competing and enjoying the company of those who share our passion and that feeling is still there. The years and health may take that away but not the aggravation or long tows or uncaring NHRA or anything else. Denver has long been on my bucket list so I flew to Denver to see the last “traditional” Mile High Nationals. It was a thrill in every sense, even as just a spectator. Met some new racers, almost saw Norman take that awesome 62 Pontiac all the way and the list goes on. As long as I can, I will and be it in a bracket car or a Super Stocker I will be expecting that win light to come on.
