Well said Randy! Just ticks me off and I was not even involved. But feel bad for Jim who I don't know and I am glad several racers banded together to help Jim, his brother and son get the car back together in time to make the 8 am eliminations!

Scroll down to: Looking for Indy Stock first rd details post.
It doesn’t have the alternates listed but some guys like Robin Lawerence didn’t make
first rd. Not sure this helps ya though.

"Jim" Beuthel, Boudreau or Parsons?

What caused Lawrence, Gaffney, Mattson, McCormick and Buth to all miss the first round?

I see, but the DNQ's didn't change much, if at all.
The question is, were all the alternates there and ready? I know of at least two who weren't. So did anyone else get the big bone, besides Casey? Most likely. :-(

I was broke and didn't make first round.

I was number 131 (3rd alternate). They did line up the first 3 of us (at least) in the staging lanes after most of the stockers had ran. Prior to that it was very confusing.

I decided not to run Friday about midnight. At that point I still had another 2 to 3 hours to get the car ready. Jimmy Ronzello and Mark Kirkman were helping as well. With my setup I needed to remove the starter and motor mount to get the last 2 header bolts installed. It was dark we were tired. I was also committed to helping Chris Holbrook with his Holley EFI in Factory X.
Mark and I had swapped transmissions the previous evening and had not recovered from that. We pushed the car to my pit spot where it sat until I was able to finish it on Sunday morning.
We went fast, were legal and had a great time at Indy.

Marty, would you have been able to fix it if they started stock eliminator on Saturday like they did in the old days.

It certainly would have give Lawerance time to finish putting the car back together and possibly one or two others. Seems like modern vehicle are a hair more difficult to disassemble and reassemble than the old ones, and asking teardown guys to be after tearing down for inspection the night before to be ready to race at 8 am, is sort of ridiculous, a bit of sleep is always advisable so that one is fully aware of what he is doing before trying to compete at a high rate of speed. Seems the ability to compete and the safety issue would suggest their schedule is not workable the way it was run for the 2023 US Nationals.

Actually sounds like they did a pretty good job of getting the alternates in order until the end. Even if racers did not have a good qualifying sheet so they knew what was going on and all the alternates lined up and ready to go. Maybe if they had another day between teardown and eliminations NHRA and the racers both could have been ready!

All this could have been eliminated if they weren't so set on getting rid of what should be the real show by Saturday and Sunday leaving only two finalists for Monday in each non pro category so they could cater to television and money that brings in. Different objectives than the old days where the racing was for the racers to compete and show their talents to each other and the fans in an organized fashion. Seems like now it is repeating circus ever other weekend.

Wonder if NHRA is a learning organization without Mr. Parks and Mr. Gibbs?

I had blown head gasket problems from a possible cracked head or block, so I probably wouldn't have raced even if we raced on Saturday.

Great points made on your post.
I agree teardown the night before & be ready for a 8:00 am start is a bit much.
Lots of Stock Elim guys are not 25-35 yrs old anymore.
Maybe start eliminations at Noon-1pm at least.
They have other categories that don’t get torn down so they can get the show started
the day after teardown.

So glad that Don McElroy has joined the conversation. For you youngsters out there, Don was Badazz . The man turned on many win lights and he was way ahead of the stocker game in his day….The problem with NHRA is that the suits don’t understand us. There was NOTHING wrong with the old schedule pre Covid. Tear down stockers on Friday and tear down superstockers on Saturday.. That gives everyone time to put their car back together . Is that too much to ask ???

If you make a qualifying pass the same day before the first round and have to fix something, that is one thing, but if you have all evening and the night before to get ready, I can't see that 30 min of notification to race control is not feasible.
If you are one of the designated pair, you would not have the extra time anyway.

Ok you know best
