IF the NHRA has a future it through the junior dragster program!

Don't fret about it though MoJo, you'll be dead!:p

Maybe their "Jr" dragsters identify as "Top" dragsters?

OK - yep ,I ditched you guys after a nice but very busy couple of days where I ended up with a great qualifying effort but a very emotional second round red lite .I did everything I could for that not to happen but it still did - me ?? I don't know .Anyway a very nice race at Maple Grove but I really needed to get home and deal with the damage done by Friday nights storm .Had tree limbs everywhere but some friends moved stuff out of my driveway so I could at least park when I got home .Plenty of loading and chainsaw work - but was lucky that only limbs came down and not entire trees .

Congrats to Cliff and Bill - see you later in the week hopefully .

FWIW, I have zero problem with the Jr's. I think its a fabulous program. It encourages family time with a common passion, and gives the kiddo's something far more rewarding than twitter, communist China-run Tik-Tok, and gory video games. As well as helping to introduce the next generation into our sport.
I was however not thrilled at seeing, when it was all said and done, probably at least 6 hours of the program time spent on that 8.5 index class.
No disrespect to those guys, but I really get frustrated with the non-nhra classes that are continuing to being added to our races. A divisional in 1 is now $230. Did those 8.50 index folks pay that entry? They also got the finest pit spots on-site. And it now seems like every event we struggle to get a points race done in 3 days...

Its even more of a craw in my jaw when I see the non-nhra classes at a national event... With quotas so low for all of us, its hard to swallow the inclusion of the small tire, big tire, local bracket hero crap to a national event thats become very difficult for the core classes to even attend.

Im not a NHRA basher, I almost always stick up for them, but these non-nhra class additions to the schedules are not very easy to swallow.

So the unfortunate part is these tracks need to make money to survive, as someone who is a promoter, deals with a lot of tracks in the Northeast, I’ve had to add classes to my series just to even get dates. Trust me I hear it from my .90 guys, why did you add Juniors, Why Top & Top, why this and that because banking on 60 .90 cars showing up at $50 a car or having a T&T with 300 cars at $100 a pop is way more appealing.

The days of “hey I’m bringing 50 stock / SS” cars to the track can you give me a full weekend are over, you better well be bringing at least 200-250 cars with you to get a weekend at the track or renting the track for $20k a day or most tracks won’t even answer your phone call. The reality is tracks don’t want Lucas Races for the most part, it’s now why D1 is $225 to get in, the track owners asked for a raise in the entry with the additional $25 to go to them, it was dam near $50 but the vote was turned down. MG had 581 total cars, probably a great $$ weekend for them, had a decent crowd for the “Night of Chaos” and the concession stand and souvenir stand were somewhat packed but, how much advertising did they have to do to get about 1,000 people? Also you had it start at 3pm just as the sky’s were starting to look blah, so I’m sure some stayed home and it started pouring at 7 - 7:15pm.

The thing is they added the 8.50 index deal back in January / February and we know Memorial Day weekend at MG can be a crap shoot for car counts, so your not sure how many cars will show, I think the counts were great because some were going straight to Epping or Norwalk, some missed Cecil and the Association race was rained out last week at Cecil and they just want to go racing. look at Cecil was with the weather, from what I heard at Cecil they had over 75 tech cards abandoned that were filled out online but because of the weather they didn’t show, so that about $17,000 there of lost income but the track is committed to running the event. It's the one bad part of preregistration without payment, you wake up the weekend looks blah….ehhh I’m staying home, the track has your tech card but not that $225.

I think the 8.50 guys paid $150 and it was $3k to win but they also bring sponsors, they have a big fishing pole company that backs them and puts up alot of money. I’ve told guys before we want more money we need to start looking at having our own sponsors support the classes.

Newsflash, they are not your races, never were!

More important, the 8.50 index class actually brings in fans, assess in the stands, which stock and super stock does not!

Only grudge I have with them is they should have to drive them to the lanes and back to trailer. Gezzzz guys you aren’t pros, actually your car is about as fast as a middle of the pack 10.90 car…..

I like to keep an open mind, we all like to think our little part of drag racing is about our car/class.

I don't like certain NHRA classes. The ones I don't like, I'm glad they're supporting NHRA/tracks. In-case you haven't noticed, tracks are closing at a higher rate than building new.

We need any drag racer to support drag racing/tracks. We need to get over ourselves, thinking we're special or our class deserves more; maybe so or maybe not.

I'm happy to be racing at any open racetrack, it beats the alternative! If it takes NHRA catering to the 8.50 index or JR's. If it keeps the sanction going & the tracks open, well !!!

"Spoiled Brat" chiming in here, racers who have never participated in JR Drag racing, should be asking yourself what then is the gateway to get kids and other families involved in drag racing?

The future of racing does involve those under the age of 16 who are eager to learn how to compete, dial a car, drive the stripe etc. When I was a little rug rat watching my Dad run S/SS I wanted nothing more than to race. Again, my opinion as a former "Spoiled Brat", but don't worry in a few years I will be out at 0730 warming my kids car up :D

Ken needs to change the forum to Bitching Class Racer.com. 5 Pages of complaints and only one congrats to Cliff and Bill for the weekend.

James, My advice would be to focus on your racing and stop worrying and complaining about JRs, A lot are moving to S/SS and drive extremely well. You and I need to have a couple of glasses of Scotch to relax you.

MoJo, My 20 Yr old Daughter Lynda came from JRs and loves S/SS, Has a 4.0GPA in St Johns for Accounting. She is far from Spoiled and works hard for everything, All the Old Grumpy candy asses better get used to it.

Dead on with a zero!!

This forum has always been about old men complaining about the NHRA, other classes, juniors, costs, schedule, time runs tech, class eliminations, Indy, etc.

PATHETIC!!

Yes, I noticed your daughter did very well. Fortunately, she is one of a kind. A lot of these kids aren?€™t like your daughter. I went to bed at 9:00 and by 9:30 I was awakened by a bunch of squealing kids next-door did not understand it, but was, very delighted when this rain came and made them go inside. anyway congratulations to your daughter Lynda and. I would like to say the older I get the more I actually enjoy bitching. The wife says I am a marshmallow curmudgeon. Lol
And just to add, anybody that doesn?€™t bitch a little or at least take notice of what is going on around us maybe doomed, ever wonder why they?€™re bringing in some of these classes I don?€™t think any of you will like it while you are sitting still not objecting when they decide to take away stock and superstock because it?€™s much easier to bring in the Index classes, no tech, no hassles and all are heads up racing
I can always change my cars to run whatever but I?€™m sure you guys would be at a big loss so maybe some should stand up and complain about these types of things Or maybe just the sky is falling, I don?€™t know, see you at epping where I?€™m sure to find something else to complain about?€?..

Some of these whipper snappers coming out of Jrs into big cars with 7 or 8 years of experience do a pretty good job of cleaning the clocks of the old dudes sometimes. So there must be some benefit to coming up through that program vs. getting started at 16 or 17.

Lol Keith, you only got 12.5 hrs sleep and were awakened at 9:30 AM, with a "Get off my lawn attitude?"

Remind me not to pit next to you please. Lmao, take a break, grab a cup of coffee brother, waking up in the pits by any growling engine (big or small), is living the dream life, and I am loving it! I only wish the tracks were open to run a lot more weekends like the old days! So, I could enjoy more racing these days golden older days!

If I wasn't already the last to bed, and the first one up, I would ask somebody to wake me up, so I can prepare for the early lane calls fully! Missing any lane call is my number 1 nightmare scenario..
I will sleep when no longer living.

If you sit out as long as I did raising a family, racing is everything, sleeping can be done between race days and weekends! Big or small, fire in the holes is sweet music to my ears today!

Could be worse. A S/C dragster who took half my pit spot (no big deal I travel light) fired his dragster up around 2am on Friday night. That's tough when running Stock at 8:30am. 8.50 index was cool to watch with tight racing all the way down track. Stock had 117 of some of the nicest cars I've ever seen and Super Stock had 81. Congrats to Cliff Hynson in Stk and Bill Kennedy in SS. Man I was really hoping for the heads-up final with Lynda Preiser, two classic Mustangs going at it. When's the last time that happened?

Either I wrote it wrong or you read it wrong. What racer is still in bed at 9:30 AM? I was awake at six like every day well before the Jrs fire up
And by the way, I’m glad you won’t park next to me. Probably one of those guys with a cement mixer for a generator that runs all night.!!!! OK I’m done bitching for now.
Lmao

Generally I am a man of etiquette, but sometimes you need to remember that you chose to sleep in the pit area of a racetrack. If there was a thrash session and they needed to check the repair, that's fair game. IMO, of course.

True, I see your point. I've never been on either side of that situation, but if I had to check something, I'd pull it somewhere as far as I could away from people. It would be loud, but it would be better than it being right next to someone. You could give someone a heart attack! lol
Imagine being awakened by a race engine right next to you?
