Re: Original hemi dart information
the Bob Reed Dart was not a orginal Dart as he bought it from Larry Buckingham and it had a 440 in at that time. The Car later went to Tueton as the Cajun Flyer and now is owned by Joe Faherty.
Here is a picture of it right after Bob got the car running and its still painted blue |

Re: Original hemi dart information
There was on '68 dart named RamRod out of Northport Long Island, the owner was Joe Armor. My brother and I went with him to Islip speed way, he had also a 64 or 65 Hemi Belvedere. I know that Joe worked with my brother at he big speed shop in Bethpage, Grumans. I think the story went that he got the car becaue someone else reneged on the deal and the car sat at the dealership. That's all that I can remember.

Re: Original hemi dart information
The Speedwin Automotive was the Dart that I remembered, it was owned I believe by my brother's friend Joe Armor, he got tied up with Speedwin. If you look closely at the front fender there is "RamRod" the name of the car. The way the story went is that Speedwin was the machine shop for the engine, the original engine was sold to a fire company's race truck. Speedwin built Joe another engine and it siezed going through the traps, at that point Joe gave up the racing. If I have it wrong, I was a kid at the time and didn't understand the politics of what was going on. The car was fast, when we took it to Islip Speedway, it was the fastest car there. It had trouble stopping at that track.

Pete,
Original Hemi Darts,,,,,,, Top two photo's of previous post (#824) SS/B Dart Jerome Williams out of Cleveland, Ohio. Later was a Hall & Williams partnership. Third photo is; Denny Kilbane 'SS/BA' Dart Kilbane Dodge out of Strongsville, Ohio (outside of Cleveland) Also, Mr. Ed SS/B Dart (post #799) That was Ed Knesevitch out of Columbus, Ohio. Notice; Ed put on the GTS stripe kit that was put in the trunks of all the Hemi Darts that left the Hurst facility. That car was purchased by Tony Chickery (out of LaGrangeville, NY), near me. Tony bought Mr. Ed in mid-1970 out of an ad in the National Dragster. All for,,,,,,,,,,,,, $5500 pc |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Since all of the 68' Hemi Darts started off as 383 GTS cars.
A bumble bee stripe kit was put in the trunk of each car, as they left the Hurst facility in Madison Heights. One white-stripe kit and one black-stripe kit. The 68's had the full dual stripe. Also, some of the Hemi Darts came through with Model #270 Dart front-grilles (ie; Shirley Shahan; 'Drag-On-Lady', post #817) Most cars came through with the GT sport grille, |
Re: Original hemi dart information
The Speedwin car,,,,,a beautiful restoration.
Though the original lace paint scheme was a touch bolder. I think that is car #35 off the first run......SS/BA Who would think it. Car purchased in April 1968 for $5200. Ebbets Field Dodge, Brooklyn, New York. And no radio, heater,or back seat,,,,,,,,,GEEZ. |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Here's a couple of photos from Doug Potter's collection. The "El Toro" Dart pic was taken at Bristol around 1970. I don't know anything about it. The "Rumble Bee" Dart photo was taken at the old "Drag City" track in Ringgold, Georgia about 1969. This car was owned by Thurmon Callaham at the time. I've seen other photos of the car with a different owner. I don't know where this car went after Callaham owned it.

Hemi Inc, (Post #864)
South East Chrysler-Plymouth Miami, Florida 10.40 on the window late-1970,,,,, SS/AA Record Once the records got thrashed into the low-mid 10.00's, many guys started selling these cars off,,,,,,,,,,,for good prices too,,, $5500 to $6500. It was either Pro/Stock or A/MP, then,,,,,,, They moved to 1970 Hemi Cuda's for SS/D and SS/DA. A softer record. A suprisingly not happy Arlon Vanke,,,, that is his #2 car, which won the 1969 AHRA Winternationals in 'Heads Up S/S' The first non-handicap Super/Stock Event (the inception of Pro/Stock). Arlon had to buy that car from Wickes Auto Sales in Zainesville, Ohio,,,,,, well above suggested retail,,,$5700 |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Ray,
You can check the list on page 70,,,,,post #696 That list is coordinated by region, not the car #. 69 of the 72,, BO29 Barracuda's are listed. Last one added; Schmaltz Concrete Osgood, Indiana SS/BA car 3 areas of search quest,,,,,,for the other 3 * New Jersey * North Dakota * Nebraska |

Re: Original hemi dart information
M68,
Chuck McJury, Thats his first paint job from 1968. Car was a 4-speed, but Chuck would occassionally switch over to a Torque-Flite for SS/BA. Chuck out of the Schenectady, New York area, but sponsored by Cicero Dodge outside of Syracuse, and Stevenson Garage (who also sponsored Ed Miller's BO29 Barracuda). In 1969, the car was re-painted. with a black top. In 1970, the top was re-painted white. Was a runner. Saw him at Dover Drag Strip a few times, and on the NED 1 circuit. Always consistent with 10.80's. pc |
Re: Original hemi dart information
"Hemi Power" at Paradise Drag Strip in Calhoun, Georgia. I won my first bracket race at this track in 1974, got $40. My friend Dan Sharp took this photo. This must have been a big race for the track because Hubert Platt was in attendance among other notables.
