Finally got together with Frank Barnett today and asked him about your old Cuda. He said it was not an original Hemi car. He did run it in SG with the wedge motor. He sold it to Steve Bagwell who sold it to a Dr. in Chattanooga and Frank says the Dr. still has it but it has been parked for years. Frank didn't know his name.

Stewart, had to go way back to find your post but here it is. Ours was a BO29 car. Mark J. has photos of the dash and VIN and is tracing the history. The car had a '69 nosepiece, which makes me wonder if it was the car that Sox and Martin ran as a '69 in A/Modified. Billy Jacobs told us when we bought the car that it was an ex-Sox and Martin car, but you had to know Billy, he was a real salesman:D! Anthony Rhodes and Stephen Yantus have it now.

Thanks,
Terry

Ed Hedrick called me this morning and informed me that Bill Stiles passed away last night. This info came from Bill's son. Sorry to hear as he was a good friend and hard racer. He will be greatly missed.

Man, what a bummer. I never had the pleasure of seeing Bill race but did read and interact with him and vice versa via the many posts he and I made along with many others [in regards to photos posted] in a Yahoo! StockSuperStock drag racing group I used to frequent regularly back in the mid-2000's era.

I did see Bill's car at the 25th anniversary A-Body Hemi reunion in Carlisle [on Saturday] but didn't have the pleasure of meeting him in person because he a) wasn't present on Saturday or b) was elsewhere on the grounds at Carlisle.

RIP big man. But how can Bill do that with all those greats in drag racing heaven and first round of eliminations has just been called? :)

Pete :(

Aw man, just heard this too. RIP Mr. Stiles, I was hoping he would come to the reunion in Carlisle. We also lost Clark Rand today, he owned and showed the 68 S&M Barracuda and had the S&M ramp truck clone. He always made sure that people could see the cars he owned and when he could would get the drivers out with their old cars. He was quite the gentleman and will be sorely missed, RIP Mr. Rand!

As far as I can tell, the car that we purchased from Billy Jacobs was once the "Drag Hag" car of Harold Dutton. Anyone have any idea who owned it before Billy? I have the VIN number, but out of respect to the current owners, I don't want to make it public.

Yes I did. My car on the ramp truck on our way to Chrysler test session at Bradenton and then back to the Gatornationals. And yes Cornbread"s antics could fill a book of it's own

Harold Leiter is the third owner of this "BO29 code" Hemi Barracuda. He purchased it from Don Hackenburg in Denver, Colorado sometime in 1974.

Anybody remember Glen Warfel of Jacksonville FL? Saw him at a couple of times in Albany, GA back in '80's. Had a white Hemi Cuda.

Frito 03-07-2018 09:39 PM

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......

I spoke with him briefly ar Carlisle a few years ago when he was selling parts. Said he was still in Florida. I don't remember the Cuda but he did have a 67 SS/DA Dodge and a 68 SS/AA Dart that was lettered Scat Pack Dodge. Funky paint job on it

Think Glen has (or had) G&D Muscle Car Parts in Orange Park, FL. Mopar parts.

An old post on moparts says that he sold the cuda to Tom Shively and then it went to the Welch Bros.

OK, now I'm reading that the Warfel cuda was the Sox & Martin A/MP car and after that, it was owned by Stewart Pomeroy, before Glen had it. (Boy, S & M sure owned a lot of cars didn't they?) Nice pic of the Dart, thanks for the enlargement, Charlie!

Did Warfel have 2 white cudas? The car from the early 80s he had become later "the Carolina Hemi" , thought it was a Barnett car but not sure but thought it was built later than S@M cars .Never ever heard it was a Sox and Martin car though .The Polewik family had it a few years ago , Alex Polewik could confirm its past .

Also correct info. The Cuda was still painted as Stewart had it when Shively was racing it. Then it got paint in silver and purple with a orange and pink striping, like the DeFrank and Cohen yellow Cuda.

What happened to the original DeFrank and Cohen Barracuda after they bought the Bagwell Cuda? Wasn't it the car that used a 12-bolt Chevy rear end?

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......

Does any body know how many of the "original" not clones 1968 HEMI Darts and HEMI Cuda's still exist-How many of each were built I've heard 50 and all kinds of other numbers but what was the total production of Darts and of Cuda's --I've enjoyed following this thread and all of the historical stuff about who/what/when/where/pictures/videos etc. etc. Just what's left not those that are actively raced but those trailer queens or sitting in garages etc.--FED 387

FED 387 I can answer at least one of those questions.
There were approximately 70 BO29 Barracuda's and approx. 80 LO23 Darts
Dont know how many are left

Jim Kinnett was the car with the 12 bolt.
