Some very good ideas Dwight. The only one I have a real issue with, is the 10.5 tire. And that reason being, mine, and other SS type cars will look awfully goofy with those on because of the current width of rearends. Most, if not all, would have to change rearend housings. I was looking at a more realistic 12.5. And, maybe I misunderstood your post, but I think the older cars are at a disadvantage because of the new cars with the laid back wind shields, and less frontal area. I don't think it matters much in the 1\8th mile, but in the quarter it does matter.

The correct back spacing wheels will put the 10.5" tires back out where they look fine. Guys were doing that "back in the day" to save weight & unsprung weight.
Sounds like fun, but I don't know how many guys like me with later cars would build another car to run it. Don't know about requiring a stick car, either. Lingenfelter ran an automatic back then. Sticks sure as heck won't do bigger wheel stands for the crowds. LOL

Just a question, Why are the tire specs small or important? Isnt that just another CO$T to adapt to the Mod Class?
Body rules might be just add wt for FWD cars, subtract wt for auto cars, Adjust with proven performance AFTER the first 100 runs or qualifying stats are available. Make it so EVERYONE can run the class with only a cheap motor build to level the field and massively cut cost while creating a fun class of MANY cars. WIth time the easiest cheapest chassis would become the entry car for current non racing people.
I could even see room for a S/G chassis with wt and specs as a cheaper entry...

I'm open to anything guys. I just thought the old cars would be a little more interesting for the fans, but I'm not against ANY year car, or type chassis. As long as they make min. wt. This is just a question, but my thoughts are cars a certain year, and older, possibly getting a small wt. break. There is an advantage. I've ran both. I even hope someone brings in 55-57 chevys, fords, etc. Also, a 37 chevy would look good in there. These ain't my rules, just ideas. No one gets all they want. If the backspacing thing will work, I'd damn sure put on a 8" radial street tire, if they would just give us a shot.

NHRA only responds( when they do) to ideas they like. I have e-mailed Danny Gracia brief discussion of our comments here. I think everyone needs to pull up the NHRA TECH site and send a letter supporting the idea of a New Super Mod type class for ALL the racers to enter using present cars and limited motor to cut costs.
Randy please send him a set of your rules and discussion of your tracks testing of the classes and success. That will be helpful to see where it is available people are liking it.
I suggested ONE class with index to fit Points meets as a starting point. People still can attend and compete without the $30,000 motor. Then when 10 or 20 cars start showing up consider a serparate race for them on entry money.
I suggested Brodix with chamber polish, Lb /cubic inchs. 750 or 850 cfm. No vacuum pumps, no dry sumps, simple roller lifters. Forgot the cam standard location. suggested no computers. No tire rule difference suggested.
I suggest everyone who cares about this topic at least support a CHEAPER SS Class is needed.

Dick. I will send one tomorrow. On my way to watch my great niece play at the University of Missouri. I think she will play a lot of basketball tonight, and want to surprise her. I will send a brief rule layout, and I know you are right about the tires. Let people run whatever they want. Who really cares. Before I send them, can I send you a copy to see if I'm not explaining it real well. It's bad enough to be an idiot, but I'm usually really good at fooling people, until they get to know me. Ha!. Brett Kempner raced at our track in stock one night in 2001, or 2002, and loved it. Wyatt Halden of Drag Illustrated.did an article on it, and came twice, and also loved it.

Hi, my name is Randy Wilson. I currently am co-owner of a 2008 cobalt, SS/DM number 5101 and also a 67 Nova. We were getting ready to run in SS.

I would like to point you to a very interesting eliminator, or at least the possibility of one. I, and others believe that comp, and SS have gotten out of control $ wise. We ran this at our local track, and Wyatt Halden did an article on it. Brett Kempner also came once and I loved it. Here goes a small breakdown of the rules. Cars, 81, and older, 75lb wt break. Autos, 75 lb. wt break. 5 forward gears, clutch MUST BE USED TO ACTUALLY CLUTCH AND SHIFT. One clutch disc, min. 10" diameter, no titanium other then valves. No carbon fiber other than drive shaft. Cam, and lifters in factory locations, and factory diameter. Brodix spec head, Mopar, Ford, and Chevy. ONLY mods allowed are milling, and combustion chamber polishing. Cast intake only. No outer mods. Maximum 2 inch spacer. No computers, vac pumps, external oil pumps allowed. Brodix could police heads like they do in the sprint car ranks. Stud mounted rocker arms only except for Mopar. These classes could be added to NHRA comp eliminator or SS. This would be a way to bring an affordable option to local tracks and/or divisional races. We need to get people interested in a ford, chevy, Mopar rivalry that anyone can afford to get into. Feel free to call if you have any interest in this.
