Here are pics of Bill Vaney cuda before it was sold.
This 1968 HEMI Super Stocker was ordered new from Midtown Plymouth of Dayton, OH in mid-1967 by Bill Vanwey. Vanwey took delivery on July 22, 1968. Vawney partnered with Butch Ackman as drivers. Vanwey campaigned the car thru the 1969 season then decided to sell the car. Dayton, OH racer Billy "The Kid" Stepp purchased the car and immediately started the conversion of the car from an automatic to a manual transmission car. During the conversion Ronnie Sox purchased the car. |

This is some info found on this site, "The Jerrys Automotive barracuda is the David Heath driven car owned by Dr. William Pearson of Owensboro ky. . David died of cancer in the early 70's. The car was sold to Paul Lance of Boonville indiana. Since then i have no idea where it ended up. The car was painted purple at the time of purchase and it was an original factory car." Not sure where I found this quote "Mr Lance was a good customer as he had earlier bought a 68 Cuda from them. Paul ended up trading it back to S&M." |

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Question for the community. I have not read through the entire 90+ page thread.
So where exactly was the BUILDING that the 1968 HURST HEMI DART and BARRACUDA cars were actually BUILT IN located and what was it's Street Address ? Research so far suggest the Budman Building MAY be located at 2150 E 10 Mile Rd, Warren, MI 48091 and is now a business called 'Dough & Spice Inc.' It was called 'The BUDMAN BUILDING' by the Hurst folks. It is 'almost' in Madison Heights, MI, but actually just to the east over the Oakland County and Macomb County Line in 'Center Line' township or district or 'city'. Understanding is the 1968 Hurst Hemi Dart and Barracuda cars were NOT built at the Hurst Performance Research Building located at 1191 East Eleven Mile Road, Madison Heights, MI which still stands today in 2019, and it is funny, because on Google Maps Street view, the 'guy' actually drove all around that building which normally isn't done, but I have a stinkin' suspicion just why 'he' did drive all around that particular building - LOL |
Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Random question , Im doing some research for a page. Jim Pancake now owns Jerry Dailys former car that Jerry purchased from the Cook brothers correct? Is it known whom purchased that car new? Just curious

[This is the #9 post Ghoast Missle references: QUOTE=James L Miller;381256]One of my favorite drivers was Judy Lilly. She took the time to talk to a young kid at the Bradenton test session circa 1976. I took off work on day to drive across the Skyway bridge to go see the Mopars racing/testing. I wish they still had those test sessions. All the big guns where there. Judy was very friendly to a kid straight out of HS.[/QUOTE]

We believe a good friend/business partner of mine has the original Judy Lilly car. We are in the process of documenting the car right now with the help of Mark Janaky and others.
I have traced the history of the car from Judy to the current owner. Doing this, I have spoke with Mark Janaky, Jim DeFrank, Jim Clark and Dave Dupuis. I have yet to contact Judy, but I am in the process of trying to find her number. If anyone has contact info for Judy, please send it my way. I am sure she would be thrilled to know her car is still alive! Here is the history I have so far... Judy Lilly New in 1968 - 1973 Russ Muira 1973 - ? (Sale coordinated between Judy and Russ by Jim Clark) I spoke with Jim Clark today and he confirmed this. Jim DeFrank ? - 1978 Hot Rodding Cover/Article Van Broussard 1978 - ? Dave Dupuis ? - ? (Sold to Collector. Owned Trucking CO. in VA? Name unknown) Sold at Cruise Auction in Early/Mid 80's to current owner. There are many things I found on this car to determine what car it is along with conversations with previous owners. A few of these things are... Yellow paint in areas that were not completely masked when it was painted the white it currently is. "Butler Roll Cage" Ghosting of the stripes that were previously on the hood when it was the yellow DeFrank/Broussard/Depuis car. Painted front bumper and chrome rear bumper. There are multiple pics of the car with this Paint/Chrome combo. The front bumper has a few unique bends/prior damage that can be seen in the 1978 Hot Rodding Cover and the current pics of the car. This makes sense, because Jim DeFrank told me he acid dipped the front bumper to make it lighter therefor removing the chrome then painting it when the car was painted yellow. In a conversation with Dave Dupuis yesterday, he told me about the crash he had in the car at Gainesville. There is evidence of body repairs on the car where he told me he fixed it. Dave Dupuis also told me the last of the VIN on this car without me telling him. It apparently is an early car. Anyone that has any other info please chime in. We are doing a full documentation/Timeline on the car, and the owner is trying to decide what way he wants to paint/letter the car. We already have approval from one of the previous owners to copy the paint/name on the car. Curious to see the replies and ideas on how to restore the car. |
Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......
Dennis Maurer is Judy's former husband. He has photos of Judy's cars on his website.
The website shows his business number as 480-540-1679. I would give him a call. http://maurersperformance.com |
