Can't tell for sure but on Harold Duttons Drag Hag rear quarter it seems to say National Points Champion, Super Stock Champion or Division or something, NHRA Div II. I will have to go by and visit Harold and see what info or old photos he might have. He didn't run Mopar long. I was actually suprised when I found out he had been as he put it "talked into "one of the Cudas and actually got into some trouble with the Chrysler folk for a couple ford parts on the Cuda. It will be a 2-3 weeks before I get to see him but if I come up with anything of interest I will post it.

Anyone know who now owns the Dart John Rivers bought at Van Dyke Dodge in Warren MI 7/68. I have a Van Dyke Decal that was in with some info I have on this car. If the owner wanted it, I'd. send it to him. Not sure it is a 68 version but it was with a retail Buyers Order I have on the car.

Sam had I think 3 different Cudas all at different times. He sold the first to me, and then purchased Ed Hamberger's Duster. That didn't last long, too slow and too hard to keep running on the mark. After that I think he got Landy's Charger.Sometime around that, he bought another Cuda from Allentown Pa.. It was yellow and black,The owners were the Wheatley Bros. He ran SS/AA Around that time had my hands full with work and my car, lost connection with Sam. Pictured car could be #3 or #2 repainted. Sorry not known who purchesed any of these from Sam.
Sam relocated from Md., and havent seen him in a few years.
I know a close frend of his, will aks him if he can get any history
I may wrong about Duster, Charger it may have been the outher way around.
All this took place some 40 years ago, so it's the best I can remember, facts may be off a little.
One thing for sure Sam Pannuty was a first class act. His equiptment took second to none when it came to looks during those years

Prepping for the X/SS Heads-Up Event......July 1969.

Seems the factory-techs at Chrysler-Performance and Sox & Martin
were sharing secrets on 'tricks' that worked on the cars, without letting the rest of the
BO29 and LO23 racers in on 'the game'.

The 1968 driver side ball-joint/lower control arm (straight unit).
This was the problematic unit installed on the early BO29 and LO23 Hemi
Super/Stock cars.
It was replaced by the angled-arm unit.

This straight unit did not allow for proper trajectory of the steering,
as the cars would tend to over-steer at high speeds.

The later cars were equipped with the newer units.
The angled control-arm/ball-joint units would slow the steering..

The early cars shipped out with the straight arms, were later shipped
the new angled units that were to be retro-fitted.

Not everyone replaced the straight arm units....

The John Macey BO29 car (original owner). John crashed the SS/BA
Barracuda at Connecticut Dragway (mid-1969).

The car was totalled,,,,,,only the engine and drive-train were
retained.......

This car was an early BO29 car,,,,as it came through with the
straight ball-joint/lower-control-arm units.

Bought by John, with help from Harris Auto Sales (Chrysler-Plymouth)
dealer out of Providence, Rhode Island.

I haven't followed this thread being a Ford guy and all, but I ran across this pic from our local Drag Strip, Motion Raceway, that closed in 1983. It does say Dale Baker SS/AA on it, I knew nothing about him or the car. I do like the rear spring separation in the pic.

I went to Capitol and was there almost every weekend from 75 to 79. So I saw Sam in that car making a lot of passes.

And I saw a lot of cars with Mr. Arnew's name on the fender...

Sam won S/S eliminator the first day he showed up at Aquasco with it. I believe it was the day after he got back from picking it up from Dick Landy.

I thought the same, but it's not even close, it's actually one of the last ones on the 297 run. I got the VIN from a buddy who has record of every VIN # of every LO & BO car he's looked at. I'll PM the number to you.

On the Landy 70 Charger, I was at Carlisle that year when it made it's public debut in all it's "glory". Some interesting info on that car is that it is an original Hemi stick car. I checked it out pretty good , & found alot of acid dipping on it, front bumper, hood, & fenders as a start. Owner brought it there for Dick to document. Not sure if it is still owned by the same guy, or if he's done anything with it since. But, it is a true survivor with most it's Landy associated parts on it, right down to the decals from 1970.
