Re: Wagon Pics!

Anybody remember/have pic's of "smokey Bear" mercury? I forget the name, actually I think it is still racing.

On another note,
Chipper, you said Vince Hazel's U/SA wagon is still in the maritimes?
What about Ken Packum's U/SA dodge? I almost grabbed it after Ken passed away since it was such a good deal....but it wasn't a Ford. Is it still around?

If it's still around and for sale again it might be hard to pass up a second time.....

The car was actually mine (#1082 H/SA). I had bought Paul Mayo's white 70 442 W-30 and been racing it very successfully when I decided to build a 70 high compression (365 HP) Vista. Paul had been running the Troxell VC (more on that as a reply to 237) for some time and Troxell and I thought that the compression wagon MIGHT work-wrong!!! Despite all efforts to get the car to work, it would spit out parts like chewing tobbacco. One night at Island Carl bennett and Ronnie Sirianni (mostly Carl if truth be told) had to push me up on Troxell's old ramp truck after the thing spit out a driveshaft. Carl told me I had one chance to hit the ramps or they were walking away.

I sold the car to Tom Krecsky near Cinn. OH and he got with Danny Lattimore and they changed it to a 71 or 72 ( I think 72) and were the record holder in SS/KA or LA for quite a while. Credit to Tom and Danny for giving up on the compression and going with a combo that had worked for Danny in his 72 Cutlass SX.

I ve posted some Jack Troxell and Paul Mayo Vista pics later in this thread and both have the woodgrain unlike #174. Ron McHugh who purchased a White 70 W30 convertible from Paul Mayo in 1972 told me that the Jack Troxell and Paul Mayo fish scale paint Vista was the same car. The Vista in #174 is truly a mystery to me. It does not have the woodgrain like the Troxell-Mayo Vista. I wish we could see more of it.

The 'fish scale' on the Vista Cruiser in 177 and 239 that Mayo had bought from John Troxell was actually referred to by Paul Mayo's painter in Columbus/ Reynoldsburg (Bill Ross) as the "Tootsie Roll" paint job. They took off the woodgrain to paint the car-same car. Paul had bought the white Lubik Olds Vista from Troxell who used that car with the two others he had built and sold to Al Seeger and Dick Griffin, to win the Manufacturer's Cup in 1971 for Olds for Dale Smith who was sponsoring the cars. The 'mystery' car Vista Cruiser from Div 5 seen elsewhere in a pearlescent is that same Vista Cruiser and is now owned by Skip Gamelin in Minnesota . I was actually trying to reacquire the car on Troxell's part earlier this year but could not reach a deal with Skip.

Rusty Patterson had restored the first Olds that Oldsmobile that they gave John which was the 'flat top' seen mostly on this forum as the Seeger/ Go Shop car (either Gold or red). Smitty flew John up and actually let him pick a car off the assembly line and drive it home. John built it and Seeger bought it off him at the Gators after John made one tiime trial with it carrying the wheels-that was all Seeger had to see to need to have the car.

Some of the later cars could not be titled as they were declared junk test cars. (Good story that shouldn't be told here about the Pemberton's junk yard/ Air Lift Company). Wait for it in Doug Boyce's book.

My brother (Kevin) had John's 72 Cutlass SS/OA, which is now the Johhny Williams F/SA '442', This was a car with atitle since Troxell had gotten it from his Alllentown friend and fellow racer John Novak 'Little Egypt'.

I still have to get my pix to Bob Rice-pls send me an address that I can send a CD/DVD to so he can put them up-who has the picture from #1082 in post 174? I will buy it.
