Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
Hi,
Barton's car is the Nascar hemi--paper car just like the Shelby Fords. Charlie Westcott, Sr. beat Jr. in the Hemi shootout with a stick car. Heard that Jr.'s car is up for sale and he is going to run a stick also. Congrats to all the winners in Class today. Just wish they had run class a little more timely. It was almost dark before the finals were run. Met Greg Fulk's wife Marissa today. They brought over some really good wine. Made in Ohio, too. And a note for Jeff Teuton--we drank it out of proper wine glasses! They have a really cute doberman puppy named Annie that was attending her 1st race, I think. Looks like she is going to fit in nicely. Went around this afternoon and took some pics of some stockers, but it will be after I get home before I try to figure out how to post them. Tom Sheehan came over this afternoon and tried to explain how, but hopefully I will get it figured out. Thanks, Tom. We run 1st round in the morning at 8 so I think it is beddy bye for now. More tomorrow. Patsy |

Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
The dog is in the picture with Greg and Marissa whenever I figure out how to post them!
Well we are on our way back to KY again after 1st round. After not running the cuda for 6 years, Larry is still figuring out what it likes. This morning there was such a heavy dew--98% humidity that the windows would fog back up as soon as you would clean them. And at 55 degrees it wasn't warming enough to keep them dry. But anyway our car did not run its number. But Merkle had us beat on the tree anyway. So now we go home and get ready for Memphis next weekend. Interesting run next round--Fletcher and Fuller heads up. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
Patsy,
Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated on all the action. I hope George and Jerry get their car fixed before Memphis. |
Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
Barton's car is the nascar hemi with the short track manifold not the bathtub long track manifold. The car is real fast 4.02 in 330'.
Hope this answers your question. As always "Paper" covers stone |
Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
Thanks ffor the information, Larry.
It may be a distinction without a difference, but it would appear that this engine (the so-called "NASCAR HEMI" that's in the NHRA Stock Car Classification Guide) was an actual engine, run on circle tracks in 1965, or thereabouts. Conversely, there seems to be no legimate documentation I've been able to find (including asking the GT 500 registrar for the national SHELBY Club, that there was ever a 1967 GT500 (428) offered for sale by Shelby, with a single 4-bbl intake manifold setup. The other engine specs that are in the NHRA Blueprint Guide for that Hemi may be as lacking in histtorical significance, as are some of the Shelby specs... which may well qualify it as a "paper car," indeed, but at least, at some point, that engine DID EXIST, though perhaps with different technical specifications. Maybe none of that matters, I dunno.... Still a "paper car," but not QUITE like the Shelbys.... |
Re: Live from Columbus Sportsnationals!
I am trying a picture I took at home.
