Adger,

Thanks for the enlightenment as regards the population density around that track. When I was there in 2007, we came in from the North ( I-30, coming from Conway, AR) and I didn't see very much at all in the way of towns, or even "settlements" around that strip, and that's where I got the mistaken idea that there weren't enough people within a comfortable driving distance to effectively support racing there.

I agree that it's a really nice facility and it would be a real loss to the racing community for it not to re-open. Let's hope something can be worked out that will facilitate an ongoing racing program that is worthy of a physical plant like that.

Is this not indicative of the economy ?

Are we not going to see the Marginal tracks hit the money wall like other business's?

The slow down in spending is going to effect our sport just like it has hit other entertainment areas, people are not going to have the money to go to the strip's to watch or participate....just read the threads here, a number of racers are not running a full schedule due to tight money times.

I think we are in a struggle to save our sport until the economy does something positive.

Hey all, I use to be the tech guy out there from 02-04(Eddie Maloney)when Jim/Amanda ran it. Any latest on the track? This is a great tracj with a huge shutdown and would be terrible for this place to be dug up. I would come down and help get that place back on its feet if they had someone buy it.

Div.4 has had points races here and IHRA had national events also pinks filled the track to overflow last year. email me if you want to know anything or contact Bobby Brannon, he also posted in this thread. I think this is really a nice track, the biggest problem I've seen is when it rains there is a problem with drainage, This maybe could be fixed. ???

Any one interested in buying Red River Raceway please don't contact me. I won't answer e-mails or phone calls about this track or upset my work schedule to answer questions.
You will need to contact Jerry Wilhite @ 318-747-3780 http://www.wilhiteelectric.com/management.htm

Remember the 'ol saying......SUPPORT your LOCAL DRAG STRIP! More important TODAY than ever before! So much more to do these days with what's left of your hard-earned cash every week...with all the things we have to do these days....why not take the kids to the drags instead of that $200 Major League Baseball, NFL, or NBA game? I'm talking about people who aren't drag race regulars! TOO BAD the "National Tour" is SO important these days and all the hoopla about earning points....Remember when there was only a half-dozen or so National Events and Pros would tour and book dates at smaller tracks between the big races? We need to go back to that sort of thing.....probably impossible TODAY!

Re: Red River Raceway Track is for Sale

Drag races are not run in reverse, going back is not a option. The only way to go is forward. The problem with all these tracks is that somewhere along the line they decided that you could make money and stay open off the racers and that you didn't need "spectators" anymore. That is the problem.

Think about the last time you were at the track, any track and this includes Division level races too. You can count the number of spectators in the stands on one hand at most of them if you take out the racers or people that came with the racers. In other words there is nobody in the stands! Ain't making any money? DUH!

The problem is marketing. Nobody wants to "market" drag racing on a local level anymore. They all figure that "if there is a track, they will come". BS! I can just about guarantee you that 99+% of the people in any major or even minor market have no idea there is a track close by racing on Fri, Sat, or Sun. Then add to that the piss poor "show" (in other words no show) at most of them and it's easy to see why the tracks are failing. Want to sell something you have to market it, plain and simple... If nobody is aware there is a race how can you expect them want to go to it?
