This "sucks" The people that made my unit never heard of stock or superstock. They make ECU's for high horsepower imports, for road racing not for nhra drag racing. I took 3 years to build the car. Went to 2 races. and now it's illegal? I don't want to take this personal but WTF.



I've got a couple of questions.
1 Who wrote the list?
2 How do you get nhra to put one on the list.

What is the problem here? If you don't have any wheel or drive shaft counters. What difference can an engine control unit make? It only controls the timing and the fuel. How can you cheat with one? Could it be any easier to cheat with an ecu than a 2 step?

The NHRA needs to fix this list to include the Gen 6 Accell and the earlier FAST units. There have been a lot of cars running these for a lot of years.

More than likely the units not on the list are no longer supported by the manufacturer. Therefore they forwarded not info.

I too spent 4 years building a stocker with an Accel Gen VI.
Contacted NHRA, sent some information and it is being reviewed. They may require more information which I will do my best to forward to them.

Called a friend who has done a lot of EFI with motec, fast and big stuff. Said it is easy to cheat with these systems. Traction Control, etc. with the data logging they include.

Get in touch with NHRA officials and your representative. Keep on them, there is no reason why the older systems can't be used.

For those with new systems: you and / or the manufacturer will need to provide information for review.

I've used the EFI Technology unit (the same one used by Pat Musi and Harold Martin) for several years...now it's not an approved unit??

Frank WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!! I've had enough!!!!! There's way to cheat with everything. If anybody knew anything about traction control it does not help on a car that has to dial in unless your holding a ton and that's not meant to be a couple of tenths... Why don't they just ban all fuel injected cars. Lets see why don't i take an ls1 corvette cut the wires for the traction control and then program the stock ecu to count off of the anti lock brakes. Wow my car now runs dead on every time!!!! This IDIOT at nhra thinks that my dos accel "Atari" system is gonna do that? The system that started all after market fuel injection systems..He must be friends with Chong!!

p.freaking.....ssssssssssssss what the hell does Edelbrock and Msd have to offer for stock????? NOTHING this a joke and more money... Can't wait to see when Compton goes to buy some more junk and hookers.............

By the way. I heard most of the units on that "LIST" come with traction control. Every unit Motec makes has traction control. (for more than $7000) And there are several units from them on the list all with traction control. So what gives?
BTW my bone factory stock PT Cruiser has a button that says traction control.

Kieth: My new ride uses the Gen VI and yes it has nothing.
That is why I contacted NHRA to attempt to have it put on the list.
Should be a no brainer.

There are those who would rather approach this in business like manner and see what we can do to help ourselves. If they stone wall it, that's class racing.
My engine was tuned on a dyno then put in the car and tuned at the track. Last week tuned on a chassis dyno. Do you think I may also have something to loose? Got the thing to run pretty well and it may all be useless!

Suggest that all contact NHRA and submit information on their system of choice. Let the cards fall where they may.

Oh Yea, I know about NHRA and the manufactures using the rule book to create new sales. This is why I don't want to purchase a new system at this point. Many large manufacturers of aftermarket racing equipment may not make it through 2009. There have been machine shops closing all 2007-8, manufactures are next to be weeded out.

And yes I know that your car is one of the first wave of EFI cars that Bud Rowe built. Am also aware of Art's achievements.

Art, you heard wrong. FAST makes one with traction control, but it is a different name and color box, and they tell you it's not legal for NHRA. Besides, if you need that you have serious problems anyway. I remember David Nickens and MSD testing his pro Stock car at Baytown with traction control, and the best they could do was run the same, that or slow down. That was back when everybody was that crying Greg Anderson was using it when he had over 1/10th on everybody. They came and got Mike Edward's MSD box every time he qualified in the top half for a while. NHRA would bring them an MSD box and wiring and make you swap with them. The guy on the golf cart would drive off with this geeky looking little guy looking over the program loaded in the box they just confiscated. Nothing there. Anderson kept killing everybody for a good while. Most everybody's (at least most everybody fast) automatic cars dead hook anymore anyway. Traction control on Stockers and SS cars like we run ain't going to do a thing for you.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with trying to tune your FAST ECU. If you were closer to me I would have helped you with it. They will idle and run just fine. I work with them all the time. MSD? I often wonder if that stands for Must Soon Die. I've had some reliability problems there in the two short years I have used it.


I have never been asked what EFI system I use anyway. I use the FAST XFI, but noody has ever looked or asked. Maybe if I were faster? :D
