John is right, M/T has always been a straight up sponsor and has helped many racers without question. Sponsors such as M/T don't grow on trees! Unless nhra start making major changes they soon will go the way of many greed filled businesses of late. I will not hold my breath however, as the nhra boys club doesn't seem to deal with reality very well. I am sure M/T will continue to support the racers who support them. Turbo Action saw the handwriting on the wall several years ago, perhaps this direction is the way of the future. Jim

I remember reading somewhere that M/T tires was just pulling out the corporate side of NHRA, but they were still planning on offering "Sportsman Racer Support"

Found this on M/T's site...
Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels are popular in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class and in all Sportsman classes, including Stock Eliminator, Super Stock, Competition Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas & Super Street classes. Mickey Thompson Motorsports will continue to support these NHRA racers through their “Team M/T” program. NHRA Racers can contact Carl Robinson at 800-222-9092 X3152 for more information.

I agree.Paul and Hallie are just plain "good people".I'm removing decals, but the Turbo Action decals will stay.

I have not read the entire thread so this idea may of all ready been discussed .

Since there seems to be various companies that are still willing to post contingency dollars but don't want to or cant afford to run it through NHRA or IHRA. It would be nice for maybe this forum or website to prepare a list of the manufactures and vendors that want to support their customers in a non traditional way.

Maybe there could be a section where the vendor/manufacture could register or post what ever incentive, restrictions and expectations they want.

This way we are not all guessing who is doing what and we know who's products to purchase and what decal to display.

Kenny , I dont know if this conflicts with your advertisers or not, your thoughts??

We would be interested in this idea. Being a smaller company it does get pricey, but we are all for supporting the racer.

Kent,

I think it is a good idea. I would be willing to have a section for any company that wishes to pay contingency without going through NHRA. It would have to be a closed forum. I do not want Class Racer to become the battle ground for racers there are not happy if they do not get there contingency in a timely manner. The company would be the only one to be able to post. They can list the races they will pay, requirements and how much they will pay.

They only issue is, if there are any conflicts with NHRA. I'm not sure if there is any legal issues involved. This is a area that I'm not sure about, and may not be legal.

I am not a lawyer, Cambria is though, so his take on it would likely carry the day.

Common sense would likley dictate that If there is no issue with Turbo Action, then there should be no issue with other companies, as long as they don't run afoul of the decency code enforced by both the ihra and nhra for good reason.

All you would have to do would be put a ongoing link in the competitors section to the companies website. Companies should update their websites to reflect such.

I think this is a wonderful idea. It would let any company that want to promote do so cost effectively. Lets face it, contigency payments would make a 100% difference for a lot of purchases ie PANTS, safety belts, etc. Or say an engine builder.........Getting paid for class wins, qualifying, even if its super small would make a huge difference in my purchasing decisions.

If the NHRA had an issue with it, it could spark a revolution............

Re: Where have all the contingencies gone??? WOW!!!

Calculate how many classes there are in say Stock Eliminator. Now multiply that number by the dollar amount posted for a win in each class. Example: 50 classes X $100 = $5,000. That is the amount that a sponsor has to pony up at a race for class winners. If there are only 20 class winners, there is only $2,000 paid out, guess where the other $3,000. goes.

If sponsors were involved like we are talking about in this thread, then the payouts would probably increase as the sponsor is only paying out what is deserved, and is still able to keep the rest.

Of course NHRA is not going to be very happy about this scenario.

U/SA common sense.

If this were to happen in a big way could nhra in return not allow any decals on the car that was not a part of their program? I'd bet nhra would try something like that. Seems their way of doing business.

Maybe the best reason to do it!

It is obvious the world is in a true paradigm shift, what once was, is no more; we are intimately and immediately connected, and there are new paths to information and doing business

It was said that the rise of fax machines helped lead the demise of the Soviet Union, as dictators could not control the free flow of information

NHRA is stuck in the old methodology, like record label companies, Blockbuster video, land line phones, having mother NHRA as a conduit between racers and contingencies....new business skips middlemen, cuts beuracracy and connects supplier to user

NHRA does count on us fighting amonst ourselves to wit: Alex getting creamed by a few at the US Class Nationals, Tueton's SRA and other fledgling efforts to organize, however their arrogance may eventually drive Class racers to bond together.

Good luck to us
