I just found this. It basically outlines the Amsoil synthetics I posted links to earlier in more detail:

One side note, never break in a new engine with a synthetic, run it in with reg. oil first, then you can change to what ever synthetic you want and you will not have any ring sealing problems.

CAM2 lubricants is coming out with a line of "Blue Blood" racing oil, a 0w-30 synthetic, and synthetic blends in 10w30 and 20w50 (and a Nitro 70, if Bailey's reading this!). Zinc levels are 2,000 ppm.

455, Would it be safe to assume that once the engine is properly broken in, you could use a 1/4 bottle of the Lucas Engine Break in Additive? If a 1/2 bottle gives you 5,000 to 5,200 PPM of ZnP, a 1/4 will give you approximately 2,500 PPM which is 1,000 PPM more than that of the old conventional motor oils, or does my mathamatics not work in this case?

njk53, I am no expert on this, only know what Lucas suggested, that was half a bottle in 5 qts. of oil for stock eliminator engine after break-in. Not knowing for sure, do not want to miss lead you, therefor can not confirm your thinking. It may also be that the chemisty of the zn is a factor??

455, it would be interesting to speak to someone from Lucas on this subject. I have two points regarding my statement 1) If a 1/4 bottle of the break in lube is equivalent to 2,500 PPM, which is better than the old conventional oils, why waste the product and spend more than you have to using a 1/2 a bottle. 2) Laws of diminishing returns; how much ZnP do you really need in your oil to prevent a flat tappet cammed engine from damage? If it is 1,500 PPM anything above and beyond that number is also a waste of product and a waste of money. This is a real good thread to discuss.

A 1/4 bottle of additive contributing 2,500 ppm of zinc is diluted by 5 quarts of oil, it would appear to add about 500 ppm of zinc to the overall mixture.

Maybe I'm not saying it quite right, but it should get the idea across, I hope.

Can 455 confirm that? Or does the bottle say the increase is for the total mixture including the5 quarts of oil?
