Hi. Fun seeing the pix of my old '66. Almost made me want to buy it back and build it again!! A little background on that car- it was an original 283 car with a PG, power steering and air conditioning. It was white with a blue interior.Danny Gracia bought it, made a stocker out of it and painted it. I don't know when he ran it ir who drove it, but at some time-probably the late 1970's,Tony Janes bought it from Danny and it sat in one of his garages. I came along a few years later, we put it together,I drove it a few times, then bought it turn-key in 1987, raced it a few times a year, and sold it off in 1991. We pulled the race car go fast hardware out of it as the buyer talked about putting it on the street.Well,it's still sitting, this many years later. Paint and interior are shot, but the body is still good and it's restorable. It has a 12 bolt posi with 3.31 gears, either the current owner should get off his hindquarters,or sell it to someone who will. It's amazing how much interest there still is in these cars!!

I love the 66 big chevys, and have looked into the 427/390hp combo pretty hard, thought it looked good compared to the 396 for the main reason being it would make more torque required to pull that big sled outta the hole.

The problem I see with the oval port 427 is that the cam is already small for a 396 with those heads. A 427 isn't really much more of a torque type engine than a 396.

I'd be concerned about getting the cylinders full enough on the 427 to make torque. With a 454 oval port engine, the longer stroke pulls on the port for a longer period of time.

A 427 only pulls on it for the same amount of time as a 396. The larger cylinder bore doesn't really help much either, as the valves are small enough that the 396 bore does not really shroud them. You have a little more piston area pulling a little hard on the port and the valve, but for the same period of time, so adding duration may not help.

I remember him and that Black Impala back in the early 70's. He won some, runner upped some and was fast for the times and rules.

Here's Marty Bernard's 'Big White Dyno'....

You won't find a nicer, better executed, better running Biscayne anywhere!!

Runs O & P/SA with the 220HP / 283" and a Glide

Re: 66 BelAir Stock Elim. Car

Alan, Not true about the torque with a 427 oval port motor. My 335 h.p. 69 427 made more torque then a good 396 350 h.p. motor on the dyno. And the 350 h.p. motor has the larger cam.
