My first run down the 1/4 mile was behind the wheel of a 64 chevelle 2 dr wagon 327 and it probably won't be a big surprise to most that it was a 4 speed. 1971 or 72 at lebanon valley. The neighbor and friend that started me going to the drags when i was 13 or 14 had 2 of those 2 dr wagons, both 64's.

The 1965 Chevelle 300 station wagon only came as a 2dr model while the 300 Deluxe and Malibu were 4dr models. I know as I owned one of the '65 2dr wagons in the early 70's. Wish I still had it today as they are extremely rare with only 1668 units built.

Travis,
I have a 65 2 dr wagon black w/red int. 300 w/a 300/327 glide (supposedly legit.) I also have a 65 Chevelle Brochure that shows both the 300 and 300 deluxe as available as a 2 dr. wagon. I think the only difference was carpet, fabric seats and a different outer side molding..
my 2 cents..

The 300 horse 327 had the same short block, cam, and had #461 heads and the 459 intake with the AFB. The carb looks almost identical to the rear carb on a 409.In '65, the 327 250 was equipped with the #461 heads. It had the same smll intake, and a 4GC with a Powerglide, and a WCFB if a stick. The 300/327 had the 459 intake and the AFB.The L-79 327/350 engine came out then, and was an option in the Chevelle and the Nova. It would have been possible to order out a '65 2 door 300 series wagon with the 327/350 engine and a 4 speed. How many of those do you think were made?

:) not very damn many!
they only made 5 or 600 65 2dr wagons total.
around 1500 in 64...
all 300's or 300 deluxes, no malibus that I'VE ever hear of....
always wanted one...
i ain't dead yet, i may STILL snag one;)

I bought my 1965 300 Deluxe 2dr wagon in early 1973 for $150.00 and he would have thrown in two more cars for $300 bucks. It came with rumber floors, tinted windows, A/C, and a electric powered rear tailgate window which still works. I'm not real good at figuring out class rules or weights but I ran if in a few D4 events in the mid 80's in O/S with an wide ratio Muncie. It's still a fun ride with a glide at locat bracket events but nothing like it was banging the gears. Of coarse this was back in time when there were more stick cars than automatics.

This is a little out of the way,but I have a '68 Chevelle 300 deluxe 2 door hardtop. Most of these were post cars, but a few hardtops were built.I built it into a stocker a few years ago. A picture of it is in the pages that Tony Janes put up from the Finals at Pomona last week. He and I were next to each other at the front of the lanes. The red Chevelle wagon is ours, too. There's still some 64-65 Chevelle 300 and Malibu wagons and hardtops in Stock and Super Stock.Neat to see!! The 327/350 is pretty rare, and it's a 4 speed only combination.

I haven`t seen it for a couple of years now, but Washington state racer Pat Brooks owns 2 64 Chevelle 2 dr station Wagons, one is a 283 M & N/SA racer. There should be a pic or 2 of it on Auto Imagery, I would imagine. He has owned these wagons for quite a few years, I recall when they were both street cars, the vanity plates read "HIS2dr" & HER2dr."
