There hasn't been a 64 Thunderbolt automatic car make a pass during a national event since probably 1966. According to the latest (today) classification guide they (NHRA) must have intended to specifically hit just the T-bolts using the "Dove" aluminum heads and even then only the manual transmission cars. The iron head manual combination was not hit and the automatics with "Dove" heads or iron heads were not affected. Maybe Ford is paving the way for the CJ Mustang "Super Stock" 2010 version especially since the "display" car had SS/BA painted on it's windows at the press introduction.

Dallas is right. The Class Guide has everything posted correctly reflecting the horsepower increase on the Thunderbolts using DOVE head Hi Riser 427 with manual transmission only. The mistake is only in the info posted on the NHRA.com list that shows horsepower changes. That list will be corrected as it has been pointed out to NHRA.

I think it was a typo concerning the thunderbolts getting horsepower as an automatic. Paul Adams was #1 qualifier at Reading and I think he may have infractioned somewhere else too. His combo is a SS/B Thunderbolt. That's the combo I would assume the horsepower was intended for.

I need to correct myself. At some point in the late seventies Harold Stout made a few trial runs in the Stout/Spain (Glidden) T-bolt utilizing an automatic; just testing the waters. However I don't recall that they ever competed at a national event with the automatic.

Then the 12-1 compression, .580" lift, 300 cfm+, 5.7 Hemi must be the king of all jokers - rated at only 305hp? - wait 'till that one shows up in E/SA

NHRA must have made a mistake with my combo too. At Indy, running with everything I had I could only run a 10.05 against Holzman in the semi-final while I watched him lift about 4-5 times in front of me and he still ran a 9.92 @ 127.69. Running .04 slower in qualifying he ran 133.94 MPH. That was probably lifting too. What a joke. The new cars should be in a whole different class.
