and heck Woodro, I've SEEN a real LT4 firebird. I know that it existed, granted it was a stick car but still.

You went to the wrong person. I wasnt privy to any of the behind the curtain decisions and didnt hear about it. I could have gotten something done at that time. Now its time to enjoy retirement time. Enjoy like I try to do.

It seems like NHRA had other motives allowing these cars in at the factors they assigned to them. And now, after three time shots, the top 20 being comprimised of 17 new cars you see the results.
So what's the point?

P.S. to my last post. At least with the crate motored combos the triditional stock cars didnt have to run the crate motored cars HEADS UP in the eliminator or during class. It only affected the qualifying positions and from that point on it was a bracket race.

And not only that...

... but also it's worth pointing out that my 5.9L DragPak is rated *50* HP less than my 360 Magnum crate motor was. And the *crate* motor was grossly underfactored?? I'm sorry, but there's no serious comparison between IHRA Crate Motor and the DP's/CJ's.

I glanced at qualifying from the recent national event from Martin, MI. Highest qualified crate motor car was 12th, three tenths behind the top qualifier.

It's also interesting to me how easy it was for NHRA to "change the conversation" by knocking .30 off the indexes. Even though we all know that they were changed .30, still, you look at IHRA qualifying from Martin, and it looks crazy to see the Top 5 cars all -1.20 under or better... but in NHRA-speak, that's only -.90 under, and we glaze over it. -1.000 under is the new -1.300 under. ....You've already got 7 cars at Indy -1.40 under the "old" indexes!

The last year they had the "old" indexes, it took -1.002 under to get in (-.702 under the new indexes) Interesting that Wade Owens has run the same 11.86 as he did two years ago, currently 22nd vs 7th in 2009.

IHRA did the right thing when they saw these cars running away in qualifying.I guess when ,and this is only conjecture, you're in a manufacture's pocket you can't correct
"mistakes" veryeasily.
And Michael you're analogy about the .30 under is a moot point. You make the final 128 or you don't.
I guess NHRA and the manufactures got what they wanted, domination of the qualifying
sheet in S/SS.

They are missing the boat on this one by not giving the new cars their on classes. We would be here talking about the numbers they put up against each other as well as some of the other s/ss numbers. Look at some of the cars not there where are the max wedges?

Why bother going......a Max Wedge dosent stand a chance. Save your travel and entry money in hopes that the situation will change soon. Or just enjoy a very expensive BS session with your friends at Indy and other races.
