I'm with you, I don't keep receipts or any numbers scribbled down or any other evidence laying around.

Ron's got it right if you have a problem with the cost of a race car ask someone who has an ocean fishing boat. The race car will seem cheap in comparison. I remind my wife about the cost of the boat we use to have and she has no problems with building a new race car.

Bo I have to say that you are one of the most honest racers when it comes to telling like it is.I'm sure that depending on the cost of the vehicle and on how much to keep it competitive, rating it from ultra, very, competitive, some what, close and showing up might make a difference in how much it really cost. Considering a Cj with a well stock stacker trailer with a tractor and u/sa stocker with a flat bed trailer is all relevant to your earning power because both might equal to the same percentage at the end when considering wages. Great thread.Claude Ruel

Doing a cost per run and looking at the bottom numbers on your Snap On tool slips are things no one should ever do. Side effects of doing either of these could lead to quitting, depression, over indulging in adult beverages in attempts to forget the numbers just seen and a realization that your must truly hate your money.

I can actually get under this number for a year... But then again I can make 20 runs on 5 gallons of C12!

This really has to be one of the things a person has to look at when they wanting to build a class specific car. The cost to run any combination varies and a person needs to figure out a budget on what they can afford to run a car competitively in his or her class. Especially if they want to run a full season. This will actually help dictate what combo/class a person runs.

It is usually one of the last things a person thinks about though unfortunately. Building A car and buying A part ONE time isn't the expensive part. It's buying mulitiple parts for breakage, testing, spares and travel, lodging, entry fees, and maintenance items that are the real budget killer. Weird to say budget and racing in the same sentence LOL.

I always heard:
"You end up with a small fortune in dragracing by starting out with a big one."
and "A boat is a hole in the water that you throw buckets of money into."

I think he laid out how he figured his costs. Some responses are only factoring entries and race fuel. He is factoring everything it costs. Some people have motorhome and/or trailer payments, cost of fuel to get to the track, wear and tear on the equipment, maintainance, entries, race fuel, tires, crew expences, etc. So anyone that thinks that it only costs 30 to 40 dollars per run is fooling themselves.
