Sometimes it does depending on what track you are at and where the scales are located versus your ET or Pit, some tracks the scales may be halfway up the track, some are slide scales and they might not weigh every round or use to not, i believe that is now a rule to weigh every rd, where they had and incident this year at a track that they didnt start wieghing in eleminations untill 3rd rd and a few drove by as their wasnt a clear anoucement to weigh, and as far as fuel it has become none exsistent in IHRA because of no nationals, but i believe they still check fuel for heads up runs.

I also wonder if it would cause a conflict to stop at the fuel check and wait for your competitor to check fuel i have only ran 3 national events in my life and they were all this year and i didnt win a round but every race i was told to move along pretty much when i arrived at fuel check which was before the scales at the 3 races i went too, so i wonder if it would be a issue if one was to stay and wait after being told to go to the pits pretty much

Brandon has a good point. If everyone waited until their opponent to weight and fuel check it would be a log jam. NHRA should issue a ruling that if the opponent passes the scales and/or fuel check then the loser is automaticly reinstated.
I agree with Bobby, Div 4 has a excellent policy of issuing cups to the winner as they cross the scales. It works great.

i know at the soon to be Northern Class Nationals i will put cones up so when you get your time slip you must go past the scale and fuel check, and if you drive on through where cones are at and get thrown out don't say a word, lol.

At Baytown they had fuel check before the scales. When I got back to the trailer and saw the right door window was up it dawned on me I'd passed the scales. This was one of the rainy years and we were pitted at the roundy round track and when I went back through the staging lanes Super Gas was running already, I thought I was screwed. Got back to the scales and 2 stockers were still in line so I was saved.
The bitch of it was I'd have missed my bye round!!!!!
