Re: Metric 200 Trans
I had a 305 El Camino.....78 or 79...It had a Metric trans in it.
I swapped in a T-350 when the 200 started going bad and it really slowed that car down. I raced it in street et before and after the trans change. A total dog with the T-350......engine had wrong stuff on it for the rear gear and the trans swap aggravated it..... |

Re: Metric 200 Trans
Yes on both accounts.
I rebuilt the engine. Put to big a cam in it and the intake was also a poor choice. It had very a very high rear gear in it and add all that up and it was incredibly slow. I shallow staged it the first time I raced it......used only first and second and the next time I raced it....I deep staged it and had it stalled as high as it would go and just let go of the brake.....I was hitting good Rt's like that... I think it slowed down about 1 second with those changes. Way too slow for me.....17 seconds. I was in between racecars and did it for fun... Lost in the semis by .001 pedaling with the radio on and looking out the back window....LOL |

[QUOTE=Rob Petrie E395;422695]If you were in the salvage yard looking for a 200 to be modified for racing. Is one better than another or are they all the same? If there is a difference whats the best models to look for it in?[/QUO
200-C is what I have been told and look for the later ones that have the input shaft extension for the lock-up converter |
Re: Metric 200 Trans
The 200-C was first released in 1981. There were several fixes in that series of transmissions, including an improved servo assembly and 3rd gear circuit, and an improved pump assembly. From 1981 through 1988 the basic transmission was the same.

Yes, and the plug for the lock up wiring. We just chop the nub off the input shaft with a cut off wheel. Some of the early models had a large, single piston servo which can be used in a real low budget build. |
Re: Metric 200 Trans
Would a metric 200 from a '76 Chevy 305 work as a decent core for a small block stock elim. application ?

I just took in an early Chevy T 200 nice working core this morning. I can build someone a nice budget starter unit just like the one in Tibor's car...Turbo Action valve body..forward or reverse, low drag tricks, etc $1000 plus shipping ...paid for in advance. Let me know if someone wants it. Call or write, text |
Re: Metric 200 Trans
Could I use a 200 in my BBC 396/325 65 Impala I am building? Weight would be 3800-4100 lb car. I have a TH 350 I plan on putting in the car- just wondering?
