I remember reading about Bernie in the magazines back in the 70's. I also remember the time he broke all of his wheel studs on the starting line, think it was Indy, the picture showed the car sitting sideways at the starting line minus a rear wheel and tire. Someone posted his contact info a few years ago when he had a health issue. I sent him a card with well wishes and a few of my memories of him when he was active. He sent me a hand written Christmas card and I still have it. I understand he sent a Christmas card to everyone that contacted him. I wish I could have met him because he seemed like a great guy. RIP Bernie.

Thanks, I wasn't sure where that was. I think Super Stock and Drag Illustrated printed the picture of that incident. I remember that car was bad to the bone fast for the day. Didn't they hit him with hp several times and then outlaw his rear suspension? Was that the last of the Corvette?

Bernie's Corvette was one of the first engines that Div. one tech director Greg X. allowed me to certify on my own for a record without another tech man watching over my shoulder at a points race at York, Pa. Bernie knew I was new and was a gentleman during the whole process. He made ME feel relaxed. He was one great guy and racer. Im glad to have gotten to know him. RIP
