Re: My proposal to NHRA

I thought class racing was what drag racing was about? I was out of the sport for sometime, but recently built a stocker. After building it, I found many racers run somewhat below their index and making their combo faster is not the number one priority. At the races one cannot change much as its really a bracket race. I find now I have more fun flogging the car at a T&T secession, fiquiring out what really works, than racing an event unless I get a heads up race. Costs for any racer is a big issue and we all have different bugets but it would nice for those who choose to run fast to have some incentive to do so like class racing at the divisional.

Typically a race set up is different than what would be used for a heads up race or class race. Heads up or class is all out for performance. A race set up is for consistency to win rounds. I can make my car about 15 hundreths faster if I set it up for all out performance in a class run off. That set up is not good for elimination rounds as it is not consistent. You need to be able to run on your dial and have a better than .02 light to be competitive in eliminations. Recently I had a round that I was .008 on the light and dead on the dial with a .003 and lost. so that tells you that racing is very close in our style of competition. Personally I like to go rounds so I usually keep my car in race mode all of the time.

Edactly, I couldn't care less about the bracket aspect of stock. I'm looking for the challenge of heads up runs.

It's ok. Went back several pages but never saw it. Doesn't matter. I'm only one vote anyway, but I seem to be in agreement with the OP on most of what his proposal was. I just don't think (from prior experience) that the powers that be will listen anyway. Jim

why not first ask nhra to cut the classes back to say 40. Run a/t & sticks together, put the modified cars in comp, & combine the factory cars in with gt or s/s, then try to get sponsors to pay class again. Do i currently have a car that could win class, no, not by any streach. But if the classes were cut back i would bet a big number that want class would bail

for the sake of the class this is the direction we should be following, adding a class for every new car certainly hasn't worked

torturing cars what are they built for? ( a ride at disneyland) my oh my how would you like to go 600 miles at 200 mph thats torture!
