Not only is the Buick stuff all really old junk yard parts, Buick never produced high performance versions of their castings that I recall. How quick would a stock 1970 GS 455 Stage 1 have been if it had come with plastic inner fenders, fiberglass hood, and aluminum wheels from Buick? At least they were smart enough to give it 15" wheels and fatter tires rather than F70 x 14's! |
Re: Jason Line C/SA
Wow this was a nice bit of history...did Buick ever make a Stage II GS?
Remember a story of a clandestine money race between a Stage V GTO and a Buick GS Stage II or III a while back. D |
Re: Jason Line C/SA
Dan, I believe there were 2 Stage 2's built. One was raced by "Pop" Kennedy out of Reynolds Buick. Ran low 10's in S/Stock. This was in 1970 or 71. Someone help if I am incorrect. My mind doesn't remember as well as it used to.
By the way another 70 Buick Stage 1 is in the northwest and has been seen at 2 races. It is owned by Alf Weibe and is a stick shift car. It is running 10.50's so far but had engine troubles at Pacific Raceways (August race) and had to drop out of competition. Can you imagine the fun of a 4 speed behind all that torque???? WOW!!!!!!! |

Re: Jason Line C/SA
Speaking of Alf's car (which he has owned and flogged in various classes for what seems like forever), does anyone have a current photo of it? I'm pretty sure Sean Cour repainted it and I'm betting Alf went right through it.

Re: Jason Line C/SA
Check out Vintage Buick Drag Cars face book page.Even has some pics of a east coast Pro Stock 70 Buick that ran back in the day.I think Jason bought his current GS from the Stephenson family back in the late 80s.It has come a long way since then.Stock Buick 455 blocks will only take about 600hp before they start to self destruct. If Jason could get a aftermarket 455 block approved,we could possibly see a 9.90 c/sa car in the future!!!!!

Re: Jason Line C/SA
If memory serves me right the Stage 2 package was an over the counter deal that consisted of heads, manifold, 850 Holley Carb , and a bigger solid lifter camshaft. Never was made on a production car.

Re: Jason Line C/SA
Pistons/headers/ring & pinion/ 1000 CFM thermoquad carb / heads/hood& scoop/ camshaft---were the stage 2 package
