Does this question imply that NHRA won't approve a crankshaft for a Pontiac?

Just some sarcasm, Todd. To my knowledge no-one has ever asked for one.

Called Callies and spoke to someone familiar with S/SS who told me the company had no interest in making cranks that could be approved it would mean a new line and inventory with very limited sales. Was warned that is how they would react by my buddy who bought many cranks from them over the years.

Years later the Callies crank on the list showed up can only assume an engine builder with good relations had the crank made and approved. Never personally checked to see if there actually was any inventory because was working with Scat who had a 1 piece seal crank approved on the list.

After 2 years of trying to get Scat to do the process, another case of "is the effort worth the potential business" called and purchased a crank to ship to NHRA, went through the process which was pretty simple it's on the list.

If someone wanted to go through the process of getting a Pontiac crank approved spending all the time and money you probably will be successful.

Frank,
I went thru this process to get the Callies crank approved. Dwayne Boes from Callies brought several cranks to Bruce Batchelder in 2015 and the 305/350 was approved.

Thanks for the legwork getting the crank approved am sure many appreciate it. When I called Callies they had no interest in stock eliminator.

Wanted to use the Scat crank because it's strong enough and reasonably priced but could not get them to do anything with Bruce just excuses so I bought one from them directly, they did give me a nice discount and worked with Pat C as Bruce was retiring.

Was not a difficult process.

Rod, does this Callies part number come with the legal extra .013 stroke or is that an option?

Jimmy, they do not offer the extra stroke. I bought one about 3 months ago and asked, for the third time. I asked them at PRI a couple of times if they'd offer it.

Thanks Alan,

I guess the next questions are, which is better new trick of the week crank or an old STOCK unmodified crank with the extra .013 stroke?

Jimmy,

Re: 350 SBC Crankshaft Advice

Just got a call from Callies and they declined to produce a Pontiac crankshaft built in the same configuration as the SBC pix that I posted.

I was thinking if it would be OK to take a 55 pound Pontiac crank and tie wrap the SBC crank to it and submit it to NHRA tech for approval???

It's difficult to get companies to commit to a production run for a low number of sales and that's why you have Comp Eliminator type cranks in Stock..

Build it and they will come...

That way when everybody has a Lightweight Callies SBC crank in their Stock Eliminator car the playing field will be level for the SBC again.
